But you're forgetting one thing. Lowry is not in Wade's position; he isn't a superstar whom every team will focus on. Combine that string of logic with the fact that he will most likely have 2-3 offensive weapons on his team, so if teams DO focus on Lowry, guys like Kevin Martin and Aaron Brooks will bail him out. In fact, if you put Lowry into Miami's team for the game yesterday, I guarantee Boston wouldn't have won that game. Wade has nobody to take the scoring load off; he has to do everything himself.
That statement is simply false. While Alston is a better 3 point shooter, his career shooting percentage is much worse than Lowry's. Kyle Lowry - Career shooting percentage: .421 Rafer Alston - Career shooting percentage: .383 Lowry has had an off year shooting. It happens. While he may never be good from Downtown, he ordinarily has a good midrange jumper.
miami has set nothing but jump shooters around wade qrich- jump shooter beasly- jump shooter jo- jum pshooter lowry- jumpshooter? no it wouldn't fit. spolsta (who runs to worst offense in the leauge imo) lets wade break penetration and either: a. finish at the rim or get to the free throw line b. kick out to an open jump shooter. lowry woudnt work because he cant hit jump shots. lowry thrives in this motion offense and in an uptempo setting. he would be worst off playing for a coach that ha a terrible offensive system in one of the SLOWEST paced teams in the league (28th of 30) even when teams focus their energy on wade, spolsta's to dumb to find out other ways to win.
What exactly is your point? I'm saying, that, if Lowry was on the floor, he would drive him like no tomorrow, to get to the line. This accomplishes three things: 1. Stops Boston's momentum COMPLETELY 2. Builds up Miami's composure 3. Actually score some points, instead of going like, 0-X in 8 minutes. Lowry would have single-handedly changed the outcome of yesterday's game. Spolstra is a bad coach? How is that team the #5 seed in the East? He needs to get fired then, if he is such a bad coach. I mean, he couldn't get #4? Spolstra is going to play to Lowry's strengths. QRich, Beasley, and JO can all make a jump shot. That's why they take jump shots.
reading > you. i didnt say spolstra was a bad coach but he is a bad offensive coach. he is a good defensive coach but runs a bad offense. if lowry was on the floor with wade it wouldn't work. both need the ball in their hands to be effective.and spolstra will always run he offense through wade as opposed to running it through lowry.
To go a step further: Kyle Lowry True Shooting %: .538 Rafer Alston True Shooting %: .490 AAron Brooks True Shooting %: .538 It's true Lowry doesn't have range, but he makes up for it by getting to the line at a high rate. Kyle Lowry can probably be solid starter for many teams, which is why Morey is so intent on getting him back.
Thank you. No one is saying Kyle is a great shooter from the perimeter, but there is no reason to ignore what he can do so well. Throwing out blanket statements with nothing to back them up doesn't even play well in D&D. (OK, maybe that was a blanket statement! )
Lowry's true shooting percentages dropped dramatically in the playoffs when referees stop calling his barrel into people fouls. No one is saying he sucks, or is not valuable, on the contrary, he is a great compliment to AB. He is this team's version of Bobby Jackson, in a different role. DD
I get a kick when people quickly dismiss that Lowry could be the starting point guard for the Lakers. Why, because it's the LAKERS? How many times have opposing point guards burned Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar the past 2-3 seasons? Lowry isn't an all-world defender but he's scrappy and strong enough to keep opposing point guards at bay. The Rockets would put Lowry out there guarding the Billups and Deron Williams of the NBA more often than not. Anyone who has some knowledge on the NBA can immediately see that the biggest hole in the Lakers' starting lineup is at the point guard position and if they get a capable point guard that can stop that defensive sieve that is Derek Fisher from playing would be considered as an improvement. How much offense does the Lakers expect out of Fisher right now? 10 points? 12 points? Despite the fact that Fisher can shoot the three better than Lowry, it does not mean Lowry can't get 10-12 points from inside the paint and/or from the FT line. What value is a penetrating point guard to a team that gets to the foul line? You don't even have to wonder because the times that Lowry helped the Rockets most was when he was getting to the FT line. Do all this mean that I really think the Lakers might somehow take Lowry away? Absolutely not. But before people laugh at the thought of Kyle Lowry as being a starting point guard for the Lakers, those same people might want to remember that Smush Freakin Parker was their starting point guard for a couple of seasons and I'm sure we can all agree Lowry is a better player than Smush.
kyle lowry this year also had a higher TS% than 06-07 chris paul. yeah he's difinitly a beter shooter than chris paul.
No one is saying he should start over AB. The playoff sample is too small. You can't take that one series and say that he will always suck in the playoffs because the Refs change the way they call the game. That's ridiculous.
2 series.....and a lot of people are saying he should start over AB..... But you are right, it was his first go around in the playoffs, and he struggled mightily. There are some things you can extrapolate though, that teams will cut off his strengths and force him to shoot jumpers.... He has got to become a better jump shooter, even if it is not beyond midrange, because it is a massive liabilty on offense. DD
Reread the post. He gets to the line. That's why his TS% is high, not because he's a great shooter. If you understood what Morey values, you would understand why he loves Lowry (and Martin). They are very efficient.
lowry doesn't fit the lakers because of the triangle offense. all phil needs out of his pg in a triangle is someone that can defend, hit the 3, and run the offense the way it's supposed to be ran. lowry cant hit the 3 decently thus he doesn't fit in phil's offense. and point guard that can get assist and get to the ft line is invaluable to phil jackson because steve kerr and derek fisher didnt get a lot of assist or get to the line a lot. lowry's skillset doesn't fit the lakers.
funny this is i LOVE lowry. im just not a blind homer that overrates our players. lowry is a GREAT backup point guard but he would be ne f the worst starting point guards in the leauge. that's all im saying.
How can't he fit the triangle? You named Steve Kerr, a player that never started a single game for Phil Jackson, and Derek Fisher, a player who (during his peak years) was more of a defensive player that can hit the 3 than just a one trick pony of today. If anything, the argument you can make against Lowry is that he doesn't fit the prototypical 6-5 point guard that Jackson likes (e.g. Ron Harper) to have. It's funny that you say a point guard that can gets assists and gets to the FT is invaluable to Phil Jackson because those two things are valuable things for ANY coach. The Lakers have FOUR players in the starting lineup right now that are more than capable scorers. What need do they have for a fifth player trying to get his? They bring in a point guard that can penetrate, get to the foul line (ergo putting the opposing team into the foul limit faster which means more free throws which means easy points to be had), and one that can get the other four players the ball all the while playing better defense than Derek Fisher and how is that NOT an upgrade from Fisher? And as of right now, Fisher and Farmar can only do one of those 3 things well. Fisher's just a one trick pony now and Farmar, if he was any good as he was hyped up to be when people were talking about him taking over the starting point guard duties, would be starting right now.
phil jackson's point guards have the ball in their hands the least of any point guards in the league. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/harpero01.html ron harpers assists and point per game PLUMMETED when he went to chicago.
Would that be because Harper was no longer in his prime, had an injury or two, and was the 3rd option behind Jordan and Pippen rather than being the first option like he had been when he was with the Cavs and the Clips? The point guard isn't going to score buckets in a triangle offense, that I can agree with you about, but that doesn't mean a player with Lowry's skillset and athleticism can't be utilized at all in the triangle.
This sums it up, thats why he's not starting material its not because he cant shoot .. I can only see him going to Indy and they dont have enough cap for us not to match ..
