He is an okay three point shooter when he is WIDE open with his feet set. I think he could be pretty close to the outside shooter Battier is, if he was a better decisionmaker and not such a chucker. He drags down his own percentage by constantly taking shots he has no chance of hitting.
Not sure he watched the game because the refs let them play they didn't call half of the actual fouls that game was uber physical. DD
They called over 90 fouls. Sure seems to me that fouls are called in the playoffs. If NBA fouls are called less in the playoffs, there should be some stats to back that up... Even if the refs let them play, they still called fouls...so you were wrong on this one.
Ok well I like all these threads talking about how good our roster is gonna be next year.. But, we don't even know if half the guys are still gonna be here. Bill Ingram from hoopsworld (a guy who knows A LOT about the Rockets and Mavs) held his weekly chat on Monday, and its interesting what he said. Look at the last question and reply on the chat... For some reason it won't let me post the whole link.. But just type in your browser www(.)hoopsworld(.)com then add this after that /chat.asp?chat_topics_id=908&status=Inactive
Never said they did NOT call fouls, only that they let them play more often...... And I don't believe that Lowry would get the same calls he gets in the regular season...... I think what Leeb says is correct, that stars get the calls, role players do not.....for the most part. DD
Stars get the call in the regular season too...no one is disputing that. Lowry still gets to the line. Nothing you guys have said changes that. As far as NBA playoffs vs regular season disparity, still need to see stats backing it up. Haven't seen any real evidence posted in this thread...
I think there was a stat that showed the same number of FT attempts happened in the playoffs as in the regular season...but I am not quite certain. However, I think the nature of the calls is much different, players play harder in the playoffs, and thus guys like Lowry who play hard all year lose that advantage when more talented players are prizing every possession. Lowry is a valuable piece to the Rockets puzzle, but if you notice, players don't get foul calls late in games, and it is at those times you need people to be able to make shots... I think drawing fouls is great, just as making shots....I guess it all depends upon what each of us values the most. I fall on the shot making side of the equation. DD
Has nothing to do with that. I'm only saying that getting to the free throw has high value, because it does. It's one of the stats Morey loves to look at. No reason to get defensive about Brooks.
Nobody is getting defensive about brooks, i just simply stated that its all about making shots in the playoffs. When you get 90 foul calls in one game which makes no sense, then i guess you can say getting fouls has a value. In the end, contested shots have to be made and superstars get the calls in the playoffs. Look at wade vs dallas or la vs kings. @0 minute bench guys don't get the calls. Milsap when he has started and now that he's playing alot again was a double double guy. Last night he played 34 minutes in a game that was super physical and the refs still didn't call as many fouls as they could have. We can go on and on and you believe what you believe i i do what i think.
Refs called 90+ fouls and they could have called more? Wow, that really helps your case that fouls aren't called much in the playoffs. My only point is getting to the line is highly valuable...whether you are a star or not is irrelevant. Again, that's why Morey values Lowry despite his crappy outside shooting.
The way the game was being played, but of course you would know if you watched the game vs the stat box
It's just funny that a day after you insisted fouls aren't called in the playoffs, there is a 90+ game where the refs "let them play." And I'm still waiting for your statistical evidence showing there are fewer fouls called in the playoffs.
But you are equating that one game as an indicator that Leebs point is invalid......thus the extrapolation portion of my question. DD
No I am not. I was only claiming that Kyle Lowry's ability to get to the line is hugely valuable. You are the one claiming free throw rates chang in the playoffs, but you have not provided any evidence.
No point in arguing vs them -- they don't let facts get into the way of their reality. They're stuck on this "Kyle Lowry can't make shots" mantra that blinds them from the other contributions. No, Kyle Lowry won't be taking any last second shots for us. But his ability to draw fouls, along with Kevin Martins, will greatly contribute to the Rockets ability to get to the foul line, in which Morey says Yao is the best offensive player in the penalty. So, if you really think about it, Lowry helps make Yao more effective by drawing those fouls, helping Yao get to the line quicker when he is eventually fouled. In the physical playoffs, having our 7'6" center in the penalty with minutes left in the game is a huge advantage. Lowry might not be in there for the last shot, but it doesn't mean he hasn't had a positive effect on the final plays of the game. DD's admitted he's seen evidence (as have I) that there's no disparity between the number of foul calls in the regular season and playoffs. Kyle Lowry doesn't seemingly become less effective because it's the playoffs -- they call fouls just the same.
You are 100% correct. Of course the only reason they are coming up with these arguments is because they thought people were implying Lowry>Brooks, but I wasn't even saying that. It's like they have to defend the honor of Brooks at all times.
