How about it? What does that have to do with Yao being aggressive? I'm not saying that Yao never gets a bum call. He does. I'm saying that doesn't excuse poor play or lack of aggressiveness.
I don't you got the logic here. If the refs treat the opponent center as the same way they do to Yao, things will be quite different. If They want to make those calls against Yao, I bet those big guys in other teams would be fouled out before YaoMing.
Beyond maybe. . . 4~5 teams I think any team would welcome him esp if they can rape the rockets in the process Timberwolves If Miami can get him for trash without giving up Shaq or wade HE'D BE IN MIAMi make no mistake about that Rocket River
1st Francis and Mobley now Yao crazy . . Just imagine if the Bulls had figured Pippen and Jordan was the problem and not Doug Collins Rocket River
Those other centers can foul out all day long. Yao's problems aren't the ref. The problems are Yao turning the ball over, bringing it low, not being aggressive in establishing position, looking for his shot once he gets the ball, wanting to dominate games, playing with some consistency. The refs are a minor thing. The refs might allow Yao few more minutes each game, and some more foul shots. That won't be the thing that turns our season around. I love Yao, and want him to do well. But I'm not going to make excuses for his performances.
I've always thought Yao was our number one concern. As i said in a previous post. When you build your team around an inconsistent player, you're going to be an inconsistent team. Yao has to step up and prove he can carry a team. Coaches, so called sports experts, tv announcers, and fans all alike wanted Yao to be the focal point of the offense. Well, he now has it and hasn't delivered. It's time for him to assert himself
If a 24 year old Dream, or a 24 year old Robinson, or even a 24 year old Ewing played on this Rockets squad, I am fairly certain they would still get their numbers. That's the difference between Yao and true franchise players. Yao needs to be surrounded by good players to do well. Franchise players will get their numbers even if their teams suck real bad.
Yao is not the focal point of the offense. Neither is TMac and neither was Francis and Mobley. The focal point of the offense and defense is Van Gundy.
The Olympics? If the olympics were 82 games, I think Tim Duncan could have adjusted. I also don't think the refs and their effect on Tim Duncan were why we lost the Olympics. They were a problem, but they didn't lose it for us.
Yao is already foul-prone, a matter of his own being and the bias from the refs. How could Yao not pick up more unwanted fouls if all of a sudden he BECAME more aggressive. I guess the refs would just stop making bum calls on Yao when they saw him becoming Shaq-like. The key isn't playing aggressively but rather being basketball-smart and assertive. When your coach put you in situations exposing much of your weaknesses, it's hard to stay smart for anyone.
I guess Shaq could have easily adjusted too. He would have "roll over" his defenders the INTERNATIONAL way without being called. The rules of the game could easily dictate how great a player could be. Guess who has the most control of those rules during the games. Like it or not, it's those little guys running around in their ugly pants. Ever heard of "superstar treatments" during the games in NBA ? Consider most games are lost or won within 4 to 6 points, you bet the refs could make a big difference, especially during the playoffs.
oh come on guys... didn't Yao shoot 13 for 15 a couple of games back? so he had two crap games in a row. at least he's doing it at the beginning of the season. I'm gonna give him at least until the all-star break to get his @$@@ together and I'll do the same with the team and JVG, especially with Sura off the DL.
You are just making excuses. Part of being a good player is learning the way the officials are calling a game, and adjusting. If you know they let the defenders get away with hacks, then be prepared to be hacked. Hold on to the ball, go up strong, make the adjustment. I know there is super star treatment, but that doesn't make a player good or bad. That is up to the player. Each person needs to take that responsibility on themselves, and nobody needs to make excuses.
I never made excuses for Yao's stupic TOs, which is his biggest problem considering his rebounds. The refs could change the way you handle the ball: Would you still go strongly against defence after you got 2+ offence call? I bet no. But as many others have indicated, I would rather Yao gets 6 offence fouls in a row, just ONCE ! I think I understand JVG's defence strategy, but I don't think that works well without Cato. Yao is the only starter in the paint who can rebound, however his weakness of slow movements was totally exposed when lured out and destroyed by opponent P&R, which also applied to even Shaq. If our forward can't keep up, why not just set Yao near the Paint (of course he should avoid defence violation) which will give us better chance of defence rebound. I don't dislike JVG, but he is way too conservative.
What excuses? Of course, all players who know how to play would make adjustments. But certain things one just can't change. Go ahead, try to make Yao jump 2 feet off the ground, make him sprint 100 m in 10 sec., and make him roll over defenders like Shaq. May be, or just may be the refs will eventually give him the benefits. By the way, shouldn't the coaches do the same thing, to "adjust" Didn't I also mention some of the problems are Yao's own shortcomings. Didn't I say he needs to play smart and more "assertive", not aggressive. If you don't know the difference, look it up in a dictionary. My point on you is that the ways the game allowed to be played make a major difference, especially for certain type of players.
And I guess if you know the defenders "won't" get away with the hacks, one could prepare to play softer , hold on to the ball and go up weaker then. Great logic. By the way, if you know blocking fouls won't be called anyway, make sure you dribble around your defenders by all means. And I'm sure Yao could do all you want. He just decided not to hold onto the ball and go up strong. I wonder why didn't every NBA centers play like Shaq, why didn't they all get up there like Air Canada. May be they have a difficult time in adjusting too.
No. If you know they don't let defenders get away with hacks, then attack the basket, and draw the foul every single time. As for what every NBA center does or doesn't do it doesn't matter. They don't have Yao's ability, skills, and size. I'm not talking about what all NBA centers do. I'm talking about what Yao can do. I don't know what dribbling around defenders or everyone making the adjustments really means in regards to what Yao is capable of.
