Anyone else see what I bolded as a veiled reference to the possibility of a sign and trade, if it involves getting someone we like and gets Landry the dollars he wants? Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

I think it's hilarious. If he was good at his job, he would have just said that there's a lot of interest both around the league and overseas, and left it at that. These comments make him sound like he's floundering.

I agree with you too, because they are trying to drive his value down and get more information about his health, but if he is unable to play for sustained periods of time, giving him a long term contract doesn't make sense.
It shows to me a sense of desperation on the part of the Rockets too if they end up doing that.

I think the qualifying offer is only like $750K. He'll never take that. The only thing we get out of offering that amount initially is the right to match whatever another team offers. Landry could probably get a $3.5M offer right now but they're trying to worm their way into more.

I don't see anybody overpaying for Landry and Buddy knows that we'll match any reasonable offer. Thus his goal is to find whatever team is willing to make the highest offer without further medical testing. They'll take it and then the Rockets will match.

We can't do a sign and trade with the MLE.They might not match an MLE offer and do a sign and trade with the same ball club that makes an offer to him though, but I think that's a remote possibility.

Do you guys think we'll offer him another 1 year deal? Since he won't give us details about his knees, then we can't trust him to offer him a multi-year deal. So Morey might just offer him another 1 year deal to see how he play this year, then it'll be the same thing all over again next year.

Or Morey refuse to offer a contract until he give us details?

This is just straight-up embarrassing. Landry really needs a new agent.

Man I feel sorry for Carl "the tooth" Landry. This agent is starting make me resent him a bit.. Landry has to realize an agent can destroy a players career *cough* Bonzi *cough*. I refuse to believe Landry agrees with what his agent is doing but I think he is being a bit naive on the money tip and has asked this agent to be the sole negotiator so he can stay out of it ..but that just my opinion.

The 1yr deal is already on the table, commonly referred to as the Qualifying Offer--the 1yr, $750k thingie that gives us right of first refusal, which Landry can sign. That is an NBA, minimum salary offer. The MLE requires a 2+ yr contract.

Forgot to add that our Qualifying Offer/Minimum Salary offer is the highest we can offer, right now, wrt a 1yr deal.

I think the Rockets should their approach to Landry given the developments in the Josh Childress case. Before Josh Childress, the Rockets could treat Landry like crap (a restricted FA) because he had no leverage. Now, Landry is more like an unrestricted FA.

Just think about how we would approach Landry if he were an unrestricted FA. Morey would bring flowers to his door on the 1st minute of negotiations like he did last year at with Rashard Lewis.

The Rockets should reverse their approach with this knee injury business. Morey should just negotiate a contract without worrying about the knee, agree on a price first, and ask for a thorough exam at the end. Just tell Carl: we'll give you this contract if your knee checks out, instead of, go check out your knee and then we'll make an offer. It's the exact same thing, but the 1st way makes him feel much better and we can always pull the offer if the knee doesn't check out.

Lastly, Landry going to Europe is not as crippling to us as Josh Childress going to Europe. Childress will be released or traded before next summer because he has a cap hold of 15 million, meaning the Hawks will have no cap space next season (they were set to have 20 mil). I don't think Landry's cap hold is nearly that high, and we don't have any space any way. So the Rockets can hold onto Landry's rights as long as they want, where as the Hawks will be forced to make a move on Childress next year.

Very, very well said. Landry is a second year player. To think he would make more than a player such as Brandon Roy is ridiculous. Please don't turn this into the NFL.

There is no way that Landry doesnt agree with what his agent is doing. This is Landry's lively hood. His SOLE concern right now.

Landry's either really bought into his agents and his tactics or really wants his agent to him get lots of money.

At this point I would throw in the towel on Landry and his agent. If Morey has a FA he wants to sign with the MLE, he should and just take the chance that whatever he has left will be enough to resign Landry. Time to play hardball with Mr. Baker.

This I think is Landry's agent's only flaw. All that other politicking would probably be performed by anyone else except agents of players that just want to get a deal signed no matter the consequences (like Tim Duncan). The real problem with Landry's agent is that he is starting to overshadow the player himself by going through the press with his comments and negotiating maneuvers. The experienced ones don't drag the process through the mud in the public's plain view like that.
