Actually not that serious to have a catheter placed for the purposes of longterm IV antibiotic administration. It's the only way to do it as an outpatient. 4-6 weeks of IV antibiotics are dosed for conditions such as endocarditis and chronic osteomyelitis, but I don't think Kyle had those conditions. My money (uninformed money btw) is on an inoperable form of appendicitis leading to a phlegmon or intraabdominal abscess.

Somebody chalk Kyle up with some probiotics now that his healthy gut flora has been decimated.

He said he lost 15...but my guess is he's gained at least 5 of that back..

I hadn't heard anything about his weight I just know that laying around a hospital and eating jello turns muscle into mush, and getting fed via IV means dramatic weight loss.

    Sound the mini-alarm.

I'll say it again, I'm less worried about his conditioning (OremLK: the wind it takes to run up and down the court for 35 mpg) than I am about his weight/strength loss. It's not hard to put back on weight, but it's hard to put back on a few lbs of muscle in a couple weeks while recovering from an illness.

Everyone would worry about him playing with a mild ankle sprain, but we should also worry about him playing under weight & under strength... he'll never be quicker than Tony Parker, so at least he can lean on him throughout the game to even the playing field. A first round series against OKC goes 6+ games as long as Kyle is up to full strength, we'd be lucky to not get swept without him. I hope they give him all the time he needs to bulk up properly and let him return 3 weeks from now for the last 6 games of the season since they are all home or close travel games except @Miami, and let him come off the bench until the athletic aggressiveness returns.

If Kyle comes back significantly sooner than that and plays well, I'd be pretty shocked & amazed.

Lowry just needs to hang it up through the end of the regular season and come back when the Rockets make the playoffs.

Indeed, just ease his way back if he comes back at all. Wouldn't be suprise me still if in a few days / weeks the infection or whatever is more severe and he's out for the season.

Thought he was shooting 3s with Goran last week? There was that pic of him back at practice, was he wearing it then? That's pretty shtty man, how unlucky is this team? We let go of a decent 3rd string pg cuz we have two beasts in front of him, then we lose one of the beasts to bacteria, our top scorer goes out with a shoulder injury, our new defensive center tears a lig, our new starting pg sprains his ankle, we drop like 6 of the last 10 games (no idea just guestulating).

I'm sure I missed something, but this year has been no exception to the unlucky rockets rule.

It's like the basketball gods hate us, nothing could bring Lowry down, he could charge into the biggest player on the court and be fine, but microscopic bacteria is his only weakness!

    rambling in bed, so tired

He was feeling sick prior to the Toronto game, injured his groin during that game, went for an MRI the next day and the guy there noticed his condition said he had to see a doctor (where they discovered the infection). That groin injury ended up being a blessing.

He would have to start ASAP, if he wants to be ready for the playoffs. He's got to get back his endurance, strength, and timing. For the last one he's going to need a few games.

Now that we have Earl "mf'n" Boykins, Lowry's services are no longer needed.

Yea man - something like this happened to me and for the first few days they just feed you intravenously and then after a few days your diet is restricted to just liquids, then once the infection starts to clear and your stomach can process foods better your diet consist of easily digestible foods like soft fruits, vegetables, yogurt, soups, jello, etc. it sucks cause your stomach shrinks and you lose alot of weight. Im sure Kyle is going through this process as we speak - it took me almost 2 months to get back to where i was before - and i lift wieghts and do cardio routinely.
