Man, if I was him, I would have gone to UT and been a king for 4 years instead of another minor league pauper. He must have a steady girlfriend or something.
Roger looks like he could pitch for a long time. I think he's been so dominant he may just stick around. I think if he was 11-10 he may just hang 'em up. But getting 18-20 wins a season he's gotta be like, day'um, I'll just keep this train rollin. His only reaosn to quit is because of momma, but it sounds like momma and the whole family would just rather he pitch. So I could see him sticking around a few.
Beckett did that too - only he wasn't drafted as a hitter. This is all about the Rocket. And I'm fine with it.
I have seen Koby Clemens listed as the Houston 5A player of the year from a couple of different publications. He is absolutely the real deal. Before his senior season he wasn't nearly as highly regarded as he is now. He showed huge improvement this past season, and was a big player in Memorial's playoff run. This is a big pickup for the Astros, and a big loss for UT (although they have an absolute glut of talented recruits coming in next year, including an all state 3rd baseman, so don't shed too many tears for them...).
I think he's got a chance to be really good. Think about it. He's had his dad to instruct him on the way things are in the majors, thats gonna give him a big head start. And i'm sure his dad has thrown to him, and probably given him some of his nasty stuff to see how he handles it. You've got one of the greatest pitchers of all time mentoring you, you cannot understate how big an advantage that is.
Just watched the sports on channel 2. They showed Roger and his son doing batting practice (roger pitching), and tossing the ball around in the out field. Wonder if that 1 in a 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Chance can happen.
Ugh. Go to school kid, you don't need money. Go to UT, rule the campus, maybe win a National Championship, and perhaps...maybe...even get an education? He's gotta a much better chance of making it to the Big Leagues by going to school and getting his name more recognized by winning rather than sticking around in some small town playing small ball.
Get an education? You have to be kidding me. This is the UT baseball team we're talking about! Sam Lecure? Drew Johnson? Preston Clark? Chase Fontaine? Any of those names ring a bell?
This makes no sense. Name recognition? Who's his dad again? There are good reasons for a HS kid to play in college in lieu of the minors - namely the quality (at the top schools, at least) of instruction compared to the minors, but especially the amount of practice time vs. game time. Aceshigh - you're right. Ricciarini & Purpura mentioned "pedigree" about a dozen times when talking about Iorg & Clemens.
I like Iorg a lot. I think he can turn into a very quality MLB player. I'm a bit concerned that he only had one really outstanding season at the college level, but his season this year was by all accounts awesome. Speed, power, batting average - he did it all this year. Hopefully he doesn't turn into another Michael Rosamond.
He made his debut for the Greenville Astros. Was 0-3 with a BB. He also has throwing error. He played 3rd base.
Yes, agreed that Macarthur, Aldine, Nimitz and Eisenhower do suck, but Memorial certainly is a powerhouse. They have had several players playing in the big schools( Rice)
I hope that Clemens was indeed the best signing available. If Drayton is choosing players for any reason other than reasons that will help this team win, it should have been an African American player. People are starting to notice.
I hope you aren't going to start this whole "Drayton is a racist" song and dance again. Seriously. You got pwn3d the last time you tried it. Badly. Koby Clemens was the Houston5ABaseball.com player of the year. He's having a monster summer as well. The only thing people are "starting to notice" is that the guy can play baseball extremely well.
I never did a "Drayton is a racist" anything, I just call it like I see it and whether pwn3d or not that's not going to change. I was on ESPN radio in Denver and actually took up for the organization when asked how I could support a team with no black players. BTW, I'm flattered that you still love me...
