I really don't think it would be a good idea to hire Kenny Smith as a Head coach and I don't think that will happen. Les said he's looking for a PROVEN winner not a first timer but no offence to Kenny.

Understand what I'm saying. I didn't say that the rox should or shouldn't hire Smith, just consider it. Rudy is a good coach or was one and somewhat a legend, but that soean't mean that Smith shouldn't even be a factor. Riley replaced Westhead 11 games into a season , 2 yrs after the lakers had won the title. How bold was that? On top of that, Riley was a announcer with no coaching experience. 20 yrs later and he's considered one of the greatest coaches of all time.

    Assistant only. Not head coach.
No way! He's not ready for that.

Why don't we sign the whole entire TNT & ABC & ESPN analyststs.

Our starting five coaches would be:
    Center- Bill Walton
    PF- Charles Barkley
    Wing- Sean Elliot
    Off Guard- Kenny Smith
    Point- Magic

off the bench in case of ejections, illness etc.

    The Czar
    Ernie Johnson
    Jeff Van Gundy
    Sean Elliot
    Tom Tolbert

We would have the best coaching staff. Maybe a big MAYBE to only Dallas's coaching staff.

The big difference is that Doc Rivers in the last few years of his playing career was considered as a "player-coach". Even coach Bob Hill of San Antonio technically treated Doc as such.

On the other hand Kenny was never mistaken as a "player-coach" kind of a player in his days.

I don't buy into Kenny. I liked him as a player but I think that that whole TNT NBA crew of Backley, Tragic Myopia and Kenny are all r****ds to be fair. Kenny may make a good coach but I strongly doubt it. Well for now let him aim low and start at the assistant coach level or try his hand in the NBDL.

I understand what your saying.. and i still feel these are two different circumstances. We're talking about a guy who has been with the same franchise for 35 yrs and a two time champion and the winningest coach in franchise history, that has just been fired(at least to those who know better). a young studio analyst with no coaching experience, does not even get a moments of consideration from me.

Actually, Kenny Smith would be a perfect assistant coach. Not only from a PR standpoint, where it would be a good move to have a popular figure on the sidelines, but also from a basketball perspective as well. Having watched basketball from the broadcast booth the last 4 years or so, I'm sure Kenny has some good ideas on zone defense strategies, motion offenses, etc. Not to mention he's tons better than the likes of Jim Boylen, Mike Wells, and Larry Smith.

Kenny Smith should fit well as Larry's assistant.

I would'nt mind Kenny Smith as a assiant to Larry. Kenny could be sort of like Mo Cheeks was for him early in philly.

tozai, a couple of years ago when the Rockets were playing the Lakers on national tv, they put a mic on Rudy, and just as Mobley
hit a three to seal the victory, Rudy pumped his fist and yelled - Kapaya! after the game they asked him what 'Kapaya' means and he said he just made it up during the excitement of the play. Guess it's kind of like Marv Alberts coined expression "yesss". Rudy is a genius who creates new words, Kenny's a fool to think Rudy would need to steal a quote from another player and use it as his own.
