exactly. they aren't bad for an occasional song or two mostly get my stuff from IRC now (particulary undernet)..... some damn good mp3 chans there.
The problem with IRC is that the channels usually don't have convenient searching tools. Some chans have scripts that help out with that, but not all of them. And the queues are an absolutely pain. Oh and regarding the music industry, they just have to change their business model and start making their money off Live Touring instead of record sales. Most people just don't care about the ethical dilemmas associated with downloading music. The labels can either continue trying to stem the tide with their moral outrage, or they can roll with the punches and figure out another way of making money. And once they start using Concerts as their main source of income, maybe the artists will start getting a bigger part of the money pie. Ultimately I envision a legitimized Peer-to-Peer program, generating money off subscriptions or ala carte downloads, along with Live Concerts being the main revenue flows for the Music Industry.
couldn't have said it better myself. i d/l a lot of stuff from songs to movies. but, i still buy CDs or Movies that i am a fan of or find interesting. for instance, i d/l the new Megadeth. it was an awesome album and i went out to buy it. all that other stuff i d/l and don't buy, well, i never would have bought it in the first place. i know how good an album is just through word of mouth. having able to d/l just makes it easier for me to judge.
I think this is in another thread, but it might be pretty old and I can't search. Could y'all tell me what your favorite bit torrent clients are? I've heard of supernova. I want to use it to get Rocket games. And does bit torrent work differently from P2P? How?
what I know is the more the seeds the faster the download. Instead of one persons pc to yours, you are taking it from many peoples pcs.
The most popular Bit Torrent clients on this board seem to be BitComet and Azureus. www.Suprnova.org (look out for the missing "e", or else you hit a scammer's page) is a torrents page. That's how it works. You download a small file (usually about 20-30k) called a "torrent", and then open it with your BT client. BT is p2p, but instead of downloading a file and then sharing it in your share folder, everybody who is downloading the file is also sharing it at the same time. So as you're downloading the file, you're uploading it to someone else, who uploads it to someone else etc. Because of the nature of this process, the best files for BT to share are really big files, that are recent so a lot of people are interested in it. And one last note, BT etiquette states that you should upload at least as much as you download. So since most people have upload speeds that are slower than their download, you usually need to keep your torrent open for other people to get it from you. Oh and regarding Rocket games, if you check the GARM, torrents have been posted for most of the preseason game so far. So I expect that to continue into the regular season.
what's the go with edonkey/overnet? it requires always more than double the bandwidth of a file's size to download e.g 20mb file size =40mb downloaded?
