He also coached Magic in LA, but was there for the Magic has Aids trauma and all the hell that took over the team that year.
Pat Riley and Phil Jackson are of the same ilk. Each had great success when they became Head Coaches with Teams loaded with great players, they never have developed a team and brought it up the ladder to a Championship. They were also both supported by experienced Assistant Coaches. We need a Coach that will have the desire to win and one that is 'young enough' to work with and relate to our players. My list is not just for Head coach but persons that I would like to also be considered as Assistant Coaches.[We do need new Assistant Coaches as well.] In no paticular order Avery Johnson, Mario Ellie, Mike Dunleavy, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Jeff Van Gundy, Scott Skiles, Doc Rivers,Donny Nelson, Kenny Smith [very good on play analysis], Bill Muscleman, Calvin Murphy,[a former boxer,he wont take any garbage from anyone] Mike Newlin,Jim Cleamons. From this list we should be able to put together a top notch Coaching Combo 'Larry Brown and Pat Riley' have had their moments in the Sun. They are just too old to catch Rockets fever and become one that has the enthusiasm, drive and diciplin needed to develop a bunch of young Rocket studs, in the tradition of the 94/95 Rudy T. 'John Lucas' never has shown signs of coaching success. He can bea good buddy to Players , but doesn't always give sound basketball advice. 'Paul Silas' a good players Coach, could be considered as a last resort.
True, but if there was ever a center that came into the league not in need of much coaching, it was Sabonis.
Pat Riley? Let's replace Rudy with a guy who was outchoached by Rudy in '94. That makes a lot of sense.
true enough... Still, only Dunleavy, Riley and JVG have experience with star centers, none got their guy while he was young and inexperienced so they didn't coach a big man up from a rookie. You know, Matt Guokas was Shaq's fist NBA coach.. bet he's available
I like Silas, but to those who back him, Is he aggressive enough?...I really don't think we need another laid-back type. We need a better take charge type...I feel he is too much like Rudy in style. The change would be for wanton.
Actually, you might say that Riley outcoached Rudy. That knicks team shouldn't have been in the same league as the Rockets if you ask me. Yet they damn near beat us. I'm not a riley fan at all. But they completely took us out of our game. I thought the Rockets would win 4-2 or 4-1 going into that series.
By the way, the only thing that makes me nervous about Pat Riley is his "relationship" with the refs. He claims that he's in their "black book."
What is annoying about that? I bet if you did a little research you would be in more light concerning things like this. Bud Adams is a season ticket holder of Texans. So what does that make him? I believe it is a show of good faith that team owners living away from his/her team base should support teams in which they live in. More so he can afford it. So why are you really annoyed BGM?
Well there has to be something shady with Les. I mean, who the hell would want freakin Miami Heat season tickets? I'd rather poke myself with a cattle prod 81 times a year.
They did take us out of our game, and Rudy made the adjustments needed to win. Rudy did a great job of adjusting to the multiple defenders that Riley through at Hakeem. Further more Riley's insistance of sticking with John Starks really hurt the Knicks. The Knicks also were a hot team that year, very much like the Rockets with almost as much talent. A shooting guard who could get hot from 3 pt land, and was a tough defender. Their PG was a better pg than Kenny Smith, and wiley veteran to boot. Rudy utilized his bench, and people like Cassell way better than Riley utilized his. Rudy totally outcoached Pat Riley.
I personally don't like owners that don't live in the city of the team they own. It's a minor issue to me, but I still find it annoying. I don't like Bud Adams either...
Riley is TOO much of a disciplinarian. I like Larry Brown, but and wouldn't be surprised if he was the coach. I don't know about Van Gundy, but I think Silas would be perfect fit although I doubt he'll even get interviewed.
the more i think about it i like Larry Brown. I've heard a lot of good points about Van Gundy weaknesses. Paul Silas i just don't know much about except he wins despite injuires. Mike Dunleavy i could go either way, i view him as a #2. As long as Larry has limited and i mean very limited control of the roster he will be a great coach.
Most of the so-called experts had NYK winning. The Knicks played the so-called brand of East Coast basketball that won championships for Detroit and Chicago. Everyone in the media was saying that it was New York’s turn to win not the Rockets. If you remember the west was considered the softer conference then. Don't try to claim that Riley out coached Rudy T because that is totally inaccurate.
