Maybe he just wants to make more time for the yungstas on this board to make brilliant suggestions for his replacement.
As I understand it that is EXACTLY correct. They have to wait until the end of the contract or make a settlement beforehand....this is all just posturing. DD
I guess JVG wants to come back, but just doesn't want to be blamed if he fails again in the next year. So leaves decision with Alex, smart move, Jeff.
If I had to guess what Jeff's conditions are, I'd bet he wants Les to dig deeper in his pocket - to get a major upgrade at the 1 and 4 spots, regardless of the cap situation. Some people complain about the talent we have - I think they've done a great job over the last few years considering what they had as trade assets (Maurice Taylor? Kelvin Cato? Moochie Norris??).
How would any of this absolve JVG of blame if he fails as coach here next year? If JVG returned next year, he would be under enormous pressure, much more than this year. Since he isn't coming back, the whole result will now sit on Les.
I wouldn't say they did that great of a job. Considering the fact that in 2004-2005 we had a pretty fun team to watch but ended up just prolonging the problem we had with the lack of youth and scoring on our team. Taylor, Cato, and Norris were horrible decisions on our part. Don't forget we were further crippled by our horrendous trade for Griffin. We really need to stop just plugging in gaps, and instead look at the long term growth of the franchise. I think if we get to the point of being a contender in 2 years or so, I would still be content. Last year was the first in a long while that I thought we took a step in the right direction, although the Battier-Gay trade is still highly debatable. Everybody is concerned with defense, but I'm all for losing defense if our incremental increase in offense is better than we lose on the defensive end. In the end, the game is about putting the ball in the basket. It doesn't matter how strong we are defensively if we can't score. As they say, the best defense is usually just being aggressive in offense.
Who cares aout who the bad guy is? JVG ain't coming back. Let's move on to thinking about the next coach and the post-JVG Rockets.
I do not know what's JVG doin'. Now he said "that's Leslie decision..." LOL. JVG THAT'S YOUR DECISION!
so is JVG wrong for wanting this!!????!!!! isn't that what we ALL Want..an upgrade at the pg and pf position....if thats what he is lobbyign for then DAMN IT, he should get it if LEs is saying NO to that, then Les is the bad guy.....
I also want a PG and a PF. The team should still be trying to attain those goals... if they're merely getting rid of Jeff to avoid scenarios like this, god help them.
Why expect the impossible??? JVG is of the old school and is not flexible or open minded. It is his way or no way!! That is the problem! If Les doesn't make serious roster changes and brings Adelman in to coach- expect much of the same- and once again Les and the sheep called Rockets Management will bleet out " the greatest team ever assembled" and we like sheep will bleet back, "Go Rockets Go"!! Knowing deep in our hearts that they are pulling the wool over our eyes, once again!
well if nothing else, JVG is leaving because he is being forced out. he is making that clear... all the JVG haters will have to live with the results. be careful what you wish for...
To back this up............ Just remember that Morey has already issued a statement in the Chronicle that according to his computations the present Rockets team is a sixtry win team and that it only requires a couple of tweeks. If our NEW general Manager is so determined to follow the party line and tread lightly, instead of exerting himself, to upgrade the team and force Les to agree to spend a little more money, then we are going to get Adelman and more of the same. The careers of Tracy Mc Grady and Yao Ming will be for nothing except money. Les has his two Championships, is he satisfied and sitting back counting the lolly or will be be up again for success? Only time will tell and reults will show NOTE FOR LES: The Rockets need a leader in the form of a starting Playmaker Point Guard. In to-day's game Yao Ming will never be effective without a great Power Forward to help in the paint. Howard and Chuck are not what we need to start and finish in the position of Power Forward. The Rockets also need a couple more athletic players who can score!
Here is the conversation between Les and JVG for his coming back: Les to JVG, "If you want to come back, you need to swallow up this gigantic red hot sausage right now." Les showed JVG a sausage with size of a baby arm. JVG replied, "No way! If you want me to come back, you need to gobble up this homemade spicy black pepper turkey bologna here." JVG pulled out a bologna sausage with size of a cucumber from his package. Both men stared at each other and the sausages for 10 minutes. Finally, they turned their back and walked away in opposite direction.
Next season is the team's option, not JVG's. So it is up to Alexander now since JVG basically said he'll come back if he is offered the contract.
It''s so amusing to watch them go through the motions, saying all the right things when you already know what is coming.Les has all the cards...Get ready for Rick Adelman.
