I mean, that's a perfectly reasonable thing for him to expect, and exactly the mindset he should have without one.

It's also reasonable for the Rockets to not give up possible cap space before next offseason. Unless a Green extension can be had below his cap hold (or at least close to it), no smart reason to do it now.

    Mature answer from Jalen.

So happy he has guys like Fred and Udoka to learn from now, in terms of being a grown man with grown man responsibilities.

Please basketball gods let Jalen Green smash Evan Mobley this year. :D

He knows he needs to play for a good contract this season, at least he's not delusional about his past 3 seasons

Rockets will try to add third star before Sengun/JG4 extensions

By trade deadline (1) or through free agency (2)

I can't for the life of me figure out who that could be. The only guys I can currently see being available are Durant (if the Suns under perform), Jimmy Butler (seems the Heat are open to it) and Zach Lavine (and nobody wants him). I could also possibly see Zion being available, but that's an incredibly high risk move considering his health concerns, and I cannot see him working with Sengun unless he gets back to playing defense.

Honestly there's no point for either side to be trying to hammer out an extension. Jalen clearly think his potential is a max player, and he's only getting that if he plays like a max guy this season. The Rockets have a bunch of young players they need to be paying in the upcoming seasons, starting with Sengun's likely max next year. They're not going to hamstring themselves with a potential bad contract if they can help it.

He needs to lock-in if he wants to continue the model kuzma lifestyle and have more baby mammas.

Good answer here, glad he seems over whatever frustration he was having. Now get back to working on that jump shot, my dude

That’s been my point for a while. If Booker isn’t going to be available, there is no one else that makes sense that is available. Patience is key. If Jalen makes a leap the sky is the limit even without moves.

This kid is becoming a man before our eyes. I’ve been a big critic of Jalen but I love this response and I love seeing the work he’s been putting in over the summer. I’m confident he will have a good year now.

    One never knows?

It's a Morey ploy that Stone picked up while working for Morey. Rockets always wanted to be in position to pounce if Carmelo Anthony or Bosh ever came available. Those types.

VanVleet/Dillon Brooks contract can be used to obtain a high tier level player during season.

Just the VanVleet contract coming off the books as non guaranteed his final year can buy us two or 3 Naz Reid types (non stars) in free agency next summer.....team still needs to secured those free agents prior to giving Sengun/Green contracts because Bird-Rights allow team to go over the luxury tax apron.

I don't know who might be available at the deadline or next offseason that makes sense, but these guys don't like losing and there are a few who could demand a trade and there are those playing in less desirable places that could want out.

I think it's wise to keep the teams' options open, just in case an opportunity presents itself to acquire a young star (not some over the hill dude like Durant).

Even funnier still is that all of the Championship contenders have home grown talent. Celtics/Nuggets/Thunder and even the prime Warriors all grew their stars. Only the Mavericks and Kyrie can say they got a star through FA.

People acting like it's 2015 still and stars are constantly on the move.

I get that Durant and Beal could get injured/remain injured to start the season and suddenly the Suns are 5-15 to start the season and Booker could demand a trade. I get that the Bucks could fall short again and Giannis could decide that maybe it's finally time to explore other markets. Things can happen. Crazy things can happen. Remember when Delonte West banged Lebron's mom and Lebron peaced out first chance he could get? We got Udoka for weird reasons too. So yeah, things can happen. But it definitely seems like we're looking for a long shot if one of the kids doesn't emerge as that guy.

Tilman is not going to pay the luxury tax for this team. He didn’t back 2018 with a better team and he sure isn’t now

I’m very happy Jalen appears to be handling the contract situation like a professional. I was also impressed that he fought through some tough criticism last year to finish strong. He does not deserve an extension but if he puts his head down and works hard we all know the potential is there. I remain hesitant to give him long term money given the lack of significant improvement the last 3 yrs, but I’m sure rooting for him to put it all together in season 4. For me it’s the shooting. We’ll find out soon how hard he’s been working on that this offseason.
