I don't EVER recall an official statement by the Rockets or JVG stating that Ewing was Yao's personal coach. That was was nothing more than an assumption. Furthermore, the article doesn't suggest that Ward will be coaching Yao. Assumption #2. Just pointing it out that you are drawing conclusions based on assumptions on top of yet more assumptions. ----------- It seems like the Rockets are picking up cheap options and throwing them against a wall hoping something will stick. If not, they didn't invest much. If it does, you get cheap help. Either way, these pickups don't prevent the Rockets from making some "splash" worthy moves later on because we can cut any of these dudes at any time. They clearly think adding shooters to space the floor is more important than replacing Juwan. I tend to agree. Not hitting wide open shots is A LOT MORE DETRIMENTAL than having Juwan on the court. As a team, our defense is fine ...so who cares if Juwan is an individual defensive liability? We need to score points and Juwan can do that. We need shooters.
i wouldn't get too worked up over this. the rockets are offering a non guaranteed contract. i think the same goes for kelena. one of them will be cut before the season starts. niether of those guys can replace luther as the backup 2 guard. this shows me that management is very confident in thier frontcourt, but worried about the backcourt. yao I deke shane I jho I hayes tmac I novak I bowen snyder I head I kelena I jacobson rafer I bill I luke I sura one tihng is for sure...we need another center on the team.
Are you sure about that krosfyah? By reading this BBS every day, not only did I learn from many posters here that Ewing was Yao's personal coach and chief shot selector, but that he cooked his meals before road games and read him bedtime stories -- except when Yao played well, those days it was somebody else handling those duties (naturally).

I really dont have a problem with the rockets taking a look at as many players in the backcourt as possible. Although, there is some good potential there, its just that potential. You'd hate to put all your hope in guys that dont come through. these types of signings are just a backup measure. as for the PF situation, i think the rockets do need to add another backup PF/C with more size. But i am beginning to believe that hayes/battier/howard/tmac may be PF by commitee.
The article says he'd get a partially guaranteed contract. That puts him partially above Buike in the priority list, and it suggests the Rockets are somewhat serious about having him on the roster, not just a preseason flyer. I don't know why they'd do that when they need another frontcourt player (unless there's a trade?).
This tells me that Sura is not coming back and somebody in the backcourt is about to be tradebait. Apparently the Rockets are counting on some player from the "scrub-club" emerging as a real contributor. I don't like this approach, "cheap" and high risk, I would have preferred a proven player. The Rockets are throwing dice, last year they lost and, injuries notwithstanding, so did the team. At this point, I have zero confidence in our very unproven backcourt. Hopefully, the Rockets are still going to make a deal before the season. If they don't, pray for a miracle.
Uh oh...... I smell another Matt Maloney long-term contract coming.. the only reason they signed Maloney long-term in the first place was cuz the chicks dug him.. the Rox ought to let his girlfriend sit on the bench and do lap dances for him during the games, or something. That way, the chicks won't be all over the phones if it looks like they won't be keeping him around. And as for that ShamSports site with the pics of the NBAer's wimmens.. dayuummmm!! I think if I could be reincarnated as anyone I wanted, I would have to be a Euro basketball player. Holy SHNIKEYS man! Sarunas Jaseicigvisidious (whatever) has apparently mac'd on every euro hottie out there, but my vote for 'Happiest NBAer' has got to go to Peja. Hooowee.
Battier started yesterday against Dirk. He did well, frustrating him into a bad shooting start. It gave me hope that he could guard Dirk and other perimeter bigs. Then against Greece he is scheduled to guard VSpan!
What a waste....seems like we don't feel like making any real splashes in free agency...these guys we are signing are way too unproven. im disappointed in our offseason to say the least (except battier)
EXACTLY! Plus, JVG loves smart, effort guys. If guys are competing for playing time, thats a good thing for the Rockets. They are not chumps, they are NBA players with something to prove. I like that. We have two superstars and a couple of solid veterans at this teams core. As long as we get effort from all these new guys, we will see results in the "W" comlumn. Look at team USA. They are not All-NBA-first-teamers (with the exception of D-Wade), but they have a team-first concept and they understand there is no room for "me-me-me" in TEAM! Just hit the open jumper, Casey.
I think the front office is banking on the fact that we had great success in '04-'05 when we were able to surround Yao with shooters. So even when T-mac isn't on the court they can put Novak, Jacobsen, JLIII, or Battier out on the court with him to keep the defense honest. Pretty good signing we'll see if he makes the roster. Hey, the Spurs won a championship with Avery Johnson and Jaren Jackson in their backcourt, so as long as we have Yao and T-mac anything can happend.
i think that the rockets are also thinking that if we can develop one or two of these unproven players, then they can become tradeable assets come trade deadline. right now, we have nothing worth offering in a trade unless we give my draft picks for the next couple of years. however if jacobsen or snyder can become a 10-12 ppg sort of player, then maybe we can trade them for a 4 to make a run in the playoffs. or maybe not...
Exactly!! Especially with the two big guys from Greece playing so well at the FIBA Worlds. If we are playing an uptempo but traditional Game ( the Big mans Game) We need a traditional Power Forward with power and strength who can defend , rebound, block shots and score.
Jacobsen can shoot and he's cheap. Exactly what Rox front office has been looking for. This move is on the same level as the Kirk Snyder aquisition in my opinion. Different style players, same idea. Cheap, possible potential. Either could end up being the starting 2 for the Rockets. Lets hope they make some move to make that unnecessary.
My goodness, is the Eastern block just crawling with blazing hot women or what? I mean Okur, Skeletor, and Peja are some ugly-@ss dudes and they are getting that kinda play. I need to order me one of them mail-order mama's. The caption on Jacobsen's wife has it right on, she spent way too much time in the tanning booth. Don't be ashamed baby show us the milky white goodness.
