It's funny how people put a positive spin on everything, even when it's bad. Juwan doesn't rebound well which is why he lost his starting job in the first place to a guy that does rebound. He's simply an overpaid albatross contract.

if juwan focus on grabbing rebounds and play defence, and then with his offensive ability, he deserves a spot on this team.

"It has taken Yao Ming just a little over four seasons to move into third place on the Rockets' all-time list for blocked shots. "

Good point. Hayes has no jump shot, but can rebound like a mofo and score on hustle plays. Now we're giving Juwan credit for finally doing what Hayes does every night?

On some nights Juwan's jumper is actually money, on most nights it's not. The problem is Juwan thought his main game was his jumpshot, not rebounding. With logic like that it's a no-brainer why he's on the bench. That said, at least he' not pouting on the sidelines. One question: when has Howard been the first/second option on a team?

Yeah, that's right about the heart virus. But he was there for the season. I agree: I wish he was cheaper and better. But I can't blame him for having a high contract and I'm sure he would like to be a better player. I'm not saying he's the best guy on our team; I'm just saying he's not a jerk and I feel loyal to him as a starter from the 04-05 season. Oh and that "garbage game" last year was JVG's fault. He didn't have to play Juwan. But I think this year that period is paying dividends with all the PT Head and Hayes got then.

First, I am not a Juwan fan. I never wanted him on our team. But we got him in the TMac trade. So I was okay with it.

Second, I still don't understand all the hate with him here. He's not a great player. He's an okay player and is declining. I think the article's main point is that he has not been a cancer even though his role is significantly reduced. And it is a valid point. What's wrong with praising a player with good attitude?

Third, his first big contract with Washington was ridiculous. This "overpaid" stigma has been with him his whole career. The fact is, his contract as a starter for us was quite reasonable comparing to the market. Now, since he is a non-rotation player, he is clearly overpaid. But we have had worse contracts. Taylor, Moochie, Cato, just to name a few.

Fourth, a lot of posters here has a tendency of hating a player simply because he replaces (in reality or in perception) someone either by trade or by taking the PT. But if anything, it is the management's fault in trade a certain player, and it is the coach's fault in giving a certain player PT.

Fifth, I think Juwan looks good in sunglasses. :D

Let`s face it, character and attitude ultimately will translate into positives, and positives into effective contribution. Furthermore, I personally and unashamedly believe God blesses those type of traits. Given what we have just read, I will from this day forward be rooting for Howard, not against him, with the hope that he has his highest and best ever career season this very year....Would anyone else want to join me in toasting Howard with that hope?

Juwan's always been a professional. He had a great rebounding game the last night, and he sets good screens and can space the floor a little with his range.

He's a pretty solid backup for us, and gives us a different dimension than Hayes. I hope he finds his scoring touch back because before it's all said and done, because we'll need offense off the bench.

Career Scoring Averages (Points Per Game):

    1994-95: 17.0
    1995-96: 22.1
    1996-97: 19.1
    1997-98: 18.5
    1998-99: 18.9
    1999-00: 14.9
    2000-01: 18.0
    2001-02: 14.6
    2002-03: 18.4
    2003-04: 17.0
    2004-05: 9.6
    2005-06: 11.8
    2006-07: 3.2
TOTAL: 16.5 (14562 career points scored)

I would say partly due to his talent and hard work, and party due to being on some bad teams, Juwan has been a first or second option in over 1/2 of his 13 year NBA career.

He has been a man of great character and a benefit to the NBA.

He is a really good team leader. That is big for this team especially. I think he needs to stay on the team.

Juwan's been rebounding the ball well this season, at least of late.

His rebound rate is currently at a career high. He's doing a particularly good job on the offensive boards. Now, if he can just shoot with a higher percentage and quit playing that matador defense.

Why are you guys hating on Juwan!?!? So what if he doesn't steal the spotlight with his flashy play. There are other things he'd much rather steal.

    + Juwan Howard = .

What a loser, he only now starting to focus on playing good defense. Every player should focus on playing their best defense and offese always.

Thanks for adding a little bit of sanity in a thread destined to be filled with more Juwan hate. The guy has had a money mid-range J every season until this one. His rebounding never was a strength but it's been passable. He's the perfect vet for a team creating chemistry with an addition of so many new and young players.
