(1) Kyle Lowry can't be traded without his consent. He's a free agent. (2) Even if he agreed to be signed-and-traded, no such trade could be consummated until July 8 at the earliest. (3) Lowry would have to agree in advance to a long-term deal with Indiana, but teams cannot talk to free agents until July 1. (4) Indiana would have to send salary back to the Rockets. Other than that, I think that trade would work.
"Bird willing to trade Pacers' top pick to land point guard" http://www.nba.com/2010/news/06/22/pacers.bird.ap/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2
Oops, i remembered the FA part, but i forgot to write down if Lowry would be interested in the swap and that it would give him a starting job/PT.... Number 3 pretty much screws this up though.
Bima, i thought u could trade a guy on a restricted tender. I know its risky because the guy might not sign, but you will have his first refeusal rights. I think lowry will play on a 1 yr tender and move on the next year.
The article also talks about the fans' clamoring for the Pacers to select Gordon Hayward at #10. While I know that Bird would rather have a point guard, I wonder if both teams would make the following trade: Rockets get: #10 pick and #40 pick Pacers get: #14 pick and the Rockets' own (lottery-protected) 2012 first round pick The Pacers can either use the #14 pick on Hayward (where he is a better value than at #10) or to take either Avery Bradley or Eric Bledsoe (and to relieve Bird of some heat if Hayward goes before #14). Of course, I'd only do this is I were Morey if there was a guy I really liked on the board at #10. Otherwise, the team could just keep its #14 pick or even trade back. A pick around #40 can be purchased, although the market's already been set at around $2M+ by the Blazers. Just thinking out loud.
No, you cannot do that. In fact, if Lowry were to actually sign the tender, the team could only trade him with his consent. But again, none of this could happen until July 8 at the earliest.
I'm talking about bfore the tender? Like right now, the new business cycle hasn't started. That doesn't start till free agency or something like that. Right now, lowry and sola are still on the rockets and still have their salaries being counted 2009-2010 season. On draft night, can't the rockets trade lowry and scola and the new team would then have the first match principal?
I read the link earlier, which is why i proposed Lowry. What stuck out the most though is they want to win now, so im not sure they'd settle with taking a young and inexperienced pg in this draft, especially when it gets a lot weaker after Wall.
Right now, you could trade a player that didn't have an (2010) expiring contract, or an option on the upcoming season. But not Lowry, Hayes, Scola.
Smoke screen to conceal the Rocket's true target. This makes it impossible for any other GM *coughpritchardcough* from ganking the guy we truly want.
well...it seems like the top 3 picks are almost a lock: wall, turner, johnson....twolves seem to like Favors over cousins...so cousins is likely to be avilable at 5 to the kings.....kings have Thompson, landry and just traded for dalembert. Landry is definitely a 4 and thompson will probably stick at that position as well. The kings may see cousins as important for the long term and Dalembert will just keep cousins from developing some this year.. So anyone think Houston will show interest in Dalembert? Any benefit to the Kings buying him out at this point?
No, you cannot trade a player who is not under contract for the following season. Technically, this even applies to players with ETOs like Yao Ming, since such a player still has the right to opt out of his deal. Sorry, them's the rules.
Doubtful. Probably keep all their players(Thompson, Dalembert, Landry) and keep their draft pick(likely Monroe, perhaps Cousins). Got a offensive low post player in Landry and a defensive low post player in Dalembert.
