Robert Horry didn't become a greater player.
    He became a SUPERHERO.

It shouldnt be SO different. I expected more than that. That's like saying he doesnt see Hakeem and Maxwell and Rudy T on the other team so its all different now. Or their uniforms have changed so its different. Its about the franchise and the CITY he was in. That he gave joy to by helping bring in their first championship banners and the fans that supported him, in what you would figure to be youthful times that are exciting to look back on...
BUT, getting dealt away, only to be brought back cuz the deal couldnt go through, then later traded again for good might have its effects. He probably doesnt hold a grudge but it could factor in. Didnt see Pippen in him but still thought he was a bit lazy and should have been more than Big Shot Rob.

OK... at the risk of returning to the GARM... I have to get my ยข2 in here...

The thing with Robert Horry is that with the ROCKETS, he drove the lane and jumped over everyone to dunk it on their faces, jump from the free-throw line, shoot the three, block the shot from nowhere, never give up on defense, and sink that long 2-pointer.

I recall that many people wanted someone else at the time, and we picked HIM, and Rudy T's words were "We noticed that in the workouts, he never gave up on defense, and we needed someone to block the shots when Dream wasn't in there." Does anyone else recall Rudy T saying that? I do.

Horry was an ALABAMA Leaper. He was a REALLY GOOD BUCK JOHNSON.

After he left Phoenix with that Ainge fiasco, he could no longer jump the same way. He was now delegated as the bruiser down low, coming in to back up someone else, blocking shots, but burying the three. He did it best with LA, hence being there for that amount of time... I was surprised to find it was 7 years also.

I miss him. He will ALWAYS be a Rocket to me. I play like Robert Horry... never give up on DEFENSE. That's not being lazy, DaDakota.

p.s. that block on Olajuwon pissed me off.

HOW GOOD? WTF, man? He blocked him from BEHIND. From BEHIND!!! Dream didn't even know he was there but he appeared from nowhere. Any other player, yeah, ok, I'd make fun of... but that doesn't prove how good he was... maybe how he didn't give up on defense, OK... but I have never seen him block DREAM face-to-face.
 Yeah, I want him back.

HE WILL FINISH HIS CAREER IN HOUSTON.

EDIT: maybe not in the TOYOTA CENTER. :( He doesn't like that place... only The Summit :D

His playing style completely changed after he nailed his tail bone on the floor against the Knicks.

He never was quite as aggressive on offense after that.

I agree with DaDakota. Somewhere after he got traded by the Rockets, Phoenix or LA turned him into a big pseudo-PF and I felt that was never who Horry really was.

I don't know, I think it was best for him, it extended his longevity as an effective basketball player a lot longer. I remember him getting roasted by Scrempf(sp?) in the playoffs (and later Scrempf got roasted by Pippen--kinda showing the gap between Horry and Pippen in lateral movement) and losing the ball a lot off the dribble as an SF. LA/Horry was a head of the time developing a PF who could hit the 3 and use his good quickness (for a PF) and length for defending. Now the longer more athletic types of PFs, some with range, are common place and the power 4s (Malone/Barkley) are few. Heck in our 2nd championship we used Horry more as a 4 and than a 3--it allowed him to play to his advantages more.

Speaking of Ex-Rockets, check out this clip at the 2:20 mark,
Maxwell on his thoughts on MJ and Pippen.

    Maxwell, always a Rocket!
