Chuck is not the only player on this team that misses layups.. How many times this season did we groan because Scola missed several, or Rafer, or Bonzi before the trade, or Bobby Jackson after it? Even Yao has days where he has to tip it three times before it goes in... and he can practically touch the rim.

I'm well aware Chuck can't shoot a jumpshot... but I am just saying he could be worse.

In fact I said that in my post above, but you can't honestly only think a player should miss a couple layups a season? Maybe a Tmac or someone who dunks everything but most other players miss a lot more than a few through the course of a season.

I would not be surprised if any of them stayed, were cut, or were traded, at the end of the day if the team is relying on Mike Harris, Steve Novak, and Chuck Hayes as a regular part of the rotation, they are in trouble.

I'm not as emotional about this as most, my reasoning is this. There are guys with abilities comparable to Novak's and Harris' that are not in the league. Some shooters close to Novak's level and some jack of all trades guys like Harris. Guys with Hayes' rebounding and defensive abilities are all making 3 or 4 times as much as him. He's not a 'waive him to open up a roster spot' kinda guy. Either you trade him or you keep him because his overall value is much higher than Harris'.

You know that's how the league works. When you get to the end of the bench its all about being a specialist.

I don't disagree with your premise but if you apply it to the Rockets we have a glut of players at the PF position that make Hayes expendable.....

That is why I don't think he fits anymore...we have his spot covered....at least close to it.....

Harris as a backup power 3 we do NOT have covered.....thus...the more versatility comment.

For me, dumping Hayes and keeping Harris makes the team better overall...simply because it makes it more versatile.....no reflection on Hayes....you could dump Dorsey too...they are redundant.

But do you dump someone with value to keep someone with less value? That's the question.

By waiving Hayes you have to pay his salary as well as paying Harris.

By waving Harris, you only have to pay Chuck.

Personally I love both of them, so I want both to find a way on the 15 man roster. But fiscally, it's more responsible to keep the player with more league value than it is waive him, pay him and then have someone else pick him up. Harris has less value because of his contract and other teams wanting to pick him up.

I am sure there aren't teams clamoring for Chuck, but he has the stats and experience to be bait.

It's all going to depend on what little trade we make in the next few months... if they make no trades, it's going to be just like last year. A numbers game.

Fair enough, but when I say dump, I don't literally mean cut........I mean all forms of getting rid of him......trade included.

Chuck has value, and I would look to move him for a pick to a team like Orlando or wherever Tom Thibedeau is coaching.

My bad, I thought you meant just waiving him. I agree that he is likely bait, but I think it will be a mid-season trade rather than before camp.

The Van Gundy's and Tibedeau's of the world are probably the best fit for him anyways. ;)

The problem is that Chuck is not an expiring contract, so he would not be as attractive in that kind of deal, and would probably be more attractive to team's short on PFs early in the year......and going into camp.

I would not be surprised to see Morey move him for a conditional 2nd round pick.....and IMHO, he should.

Heck, move him to Orlando for JJ Redick.

    :D

I don't think he would make the team here either, but I would rather the team look at him over Head, whom we know is not part of the answer...

Doesn't JJ have an expiring? So you bring him in for Hayes and you have even more money to get a better player at the trade deadline.

Good to know that he'll be with the team the whole season just like last...oops...

Harris is a competetor with a will to fit in to the Rockets system regardless the minutes that he will play. I put him on the Rockets arsenal list! Straight up!!!

Geeze whats with all the Hayes vs Harris.

As far as I'm concerned Hayes cost McGrady at least 1 triple-double this year and cost us the game against kings on road (if I'm correct).

He is an elite defender though, and worth keeping.

Harris however, did not show all his potential yet. But he did have a very very good game against bobcats when the rockets were landryless and Yaoless and we made a terrific come back after a big deficit.

They're both worth keeping, and IMO. They'll probably cut Loren woods and Head. Adelman will probably look at Francis first. If Francis does what he promised, and works his ass off. He could be a more valuable asset than Barry. If Francis stays the same, he'll probably be cut. But IMO, undersized PFs has been a plague to the rockets for a long long time. But amazingly, our undersized PFs (Landry) somehow always seem to make sized PFs smaller.

Excellent point DD, we need 10 to 15 minutes from Mike on the defensive end. Mike has a jogging mentality and needs to speed up to play the backup 3.
