    Per XLR817:

"If only DREAM tell Van Gundy to STOP letting Yao chase those smaller guards around the court & let him just stay in the lane ALA Shaq Diesel! "

Agreed-I hate seeing Yao risk injury and wasting valuable energy chasing small players outside the lane-Ridiculous-Van Gundy cannot defend this

Dream is the best big man of alltime in my opinion. sure wilt scored a 100 points, but those guys were a bunch of non-atheletic hacks he was killing . dream had to toil in night in night out against a humongus yet agile breed of big men. he was killing other monsters when they were controlling the league. a guy like that would turn YAO INTO A HALL OF FAMER.

I totally agree. Dream is criminally overlooked when people are talking about great big men.

Please. Shaq was Hakeem's b****. Even Shaq will tell you that. Like Shaq said, every great post player has 4 moves. Hakeem had 4 variations of 4 moves.

Some of you guys are acting like Hakeem is going to teach Yao the Dreamshake. If you read his comments again, he's not talking about moves, he's talking about an attitude.

Yes, Yao is starting to take on this attitude, but he's nowhere near a finished product in this area. I don't see how any Rocket fan wouldn't be excited about the prospect of Yao learning from one of the most intimidating centers to ever step onto a basketball court.

But how is Hakeem going to teach attitude? Is he a motivational speaker?

And Yao will never be able to dominate a game defenisvely like Hakeem did, simply because of his physical limitations. Attitude only goes so far.

The same way Moses taught Akeem. Meet me at Fonde and bring some Advil, because you're going to need it after our "lesson".

No one will ever be able to dominate a game defensively like Hakeem did. But, are you saying Yao has peeked defensively? I would disagree with that.

BTW, where is tinman? I would expect him to be ALL OVER this thread. :D

This is going to be Yao's opportunity to get to learn one of the best kept secrets of playing in the Association, big men should play big! Moses passed it down to Dream, Dream will pass it down to Yao. Fonde-like crash course in attitude!

I agree, I think as Yao's career goes along his timing will get better, which is why Dream was such a great shot blocker, and as a result his shot blocking ability will get better

just when though is the bloody chinese association gonna give Ming the necessary free offseason time to do this?

Hakeem's gotta come on board as an assistant - and show Ewing how it's done all over again :)

It took long enough, but like everyone else I'm splooging myself if this finally happens. I'm all warm and fuzzy inside like those early years as an altar boy.

Ewing doesn't work with Yao anymore....he hasn't for the past year.

Tom Tibadeaux is Yao's skill coach. Ewing was kicked to the curb last summer. That has already been established and is fact.

I love Olajawan too but as is common with great players, they make terrible coaches. While I would like to see Yao and Hakeem get together and work a little, I wouldn't want him to become Yao's personal coach or anything. Probably wouldn't get much more instruction from him than what he got from Ewing.

And look at the chron pic. Olajawon is receiving a pass. "Let me show you how to do it".

The truth is that Ewing and Olajuwan probably couldn't teach someone to do the things they did on the court. Much of it was from coaching and work but a high percentage of it was purely God given ability.

But, seeing Yao and Olajuwan on the court together would be inspiring, I have to admit. But as far as effective, probably not.

I prefer Kareem to Hakeem as Yao's coach. Physically Kareem is more of the same player as Yao. What I like best is for Yao to learn the skyhook from Kareem. Anyway, I don't mind Yao getting a pointer or two from the Dream.

Someone else has already brought up the Moses Malone/Hakeem sessions. Moses was a great player who did a great job helping Hakeem. It can be done.
For some players Hakeem will give them skills instruction, or show them little tricks. Othella Harrington has already said that Hakeem's coaching helped him.
That is an opinion that you are certainly entitled to. As others have said Hakeem isn't going to teach Yao the skills, but work with him on how to get the most out of Yao's individual set of talents.

It might or might not work. None of us, including me, really know.

    Not speculation...fact.

Tibadeaux has been interviewed time and time again on radio and tv regarding his work with Yao as of last off season.

Tibadeaux also has visited Yao in China to work on BB, last summer and this summer as well...fact.

Ewing has never gone to China to work with Yao. Never been asked about the work he does with Yao. Never commented on it.

That is only tv created fantasy presently. Ask around on this board. I'm sure an insider will verify.
