Peterson definitely mellowed over time. I remember back in the 80's on TV you could see Peterson screaming at the refs in the background.

I really liked having Foley as the sidekick to relay all the stats. These days, the sidekick is almost always a former player, so I'm sure the days of the statistician is gone.

Back in the day before HSE (the first Rockets cable for you youngsters), Gene and Jim were all we had for many games. I remember many a night spent playing cards, doing 12 ounce curls, and listening to Rox on the radio.

How about this call: "Sweet Lou, dipsy doodle for two!"

Thanks for the memories, guys.

Gene and Jim will be missed big time. I'll never forget asking Gene if he would read a shout out to my cousin when the Rockets played the Bulls in Chicago in 1995. He was so nice and calm.

My favorite is when he says "we got a jumbo jet left in the game" at the 7:47 mark in the 4th quarter.

is Jim ill? He sounded really bad during the interview. Almost like was going to cry the entire time.

What makes me sad is these guys are leaving and Milo Hamilton is close to retirement.

Houston has been blessed with good radio voices.

Mark Vandermeer is not bad either for the Texans but nothing compares to the above three.

This is bittersweet. I've been listening all my life to these guys and they are the true ClutchFans. I'm happy that they'll be getting a chance to enjoy the retirement life. But definitely they'll be missed. I could cry right about now.. :(

Eh, not a big Milo fan. I preferred Gene Elston.

And I liked Tom Franklin doing the Oiler games. I wish the Texans would have brought him back. Bum Phillips as the color man? Not so much...

I used to do the same thing, Gene is the best I have ever heard in any sport and Jim is a perfect compliment. I'm glad he is not hanging on too long like Keith Jackson, Pat Summeral or a local guy like Milo

Gene Peterson was instrumental in me majoring in sports casting at SWT.

I did the Bobcats basketball games on the radio and used almost all of his sayings.....

I love the way he does radio....

It's just one of those things in the back of your mind you know is going to have to happen but you keep blocking it out cause you can't imagine it....

A sad day in Houston Rockets History.

I feel sorry for the people that have to replace them, they have a huge shadow they will be in.

This is so sad. I grew up on their voices like most of us, and I can't imagine a Rockets game being called without them at the helm. Thanks for the great calls. Let's hope they end their careers with a championship.

I can't believe I grew up listening to Gene calling the plays for the Rockets... it's almost like the final piece of my Rockets youth is about to get yanked. I'll really miss these guys. I mean when you think about it, these guys have been with the organization almost as long as they've been in Houston. Wow.

I used to listen to them before I had cable and before FSN (HSE/Prime) was on basic for home games. My favorite time was west coast road trips...nothing like falling asleep by halftime and reading the Chronicle the next day for the score.

I'll go ahead and say the quote I remember the most from him during a game :

    "BULLS*%T!!!!"

    I believe that was Gene.

Jim Foley was the one who said "OH MOTHER!" during EJ's game winning shot in the playoffs.
