Man, this is terrible news... It's really a neat thing when you can hear the same announcers since you were a kid.

    I'll really miss them =(

"Peterson with the mic out top... ally-oops it down to Foley... He shakes, turns... Retirement for 2!!!!"

I grew up listening to them when they were on 740 AM. I live in the Beaumont area and 740 comes in loud and clear here. When they moved to the other station, I really missed them since there signal is not as strong as 740's. I need to find some kind of high power AM receiver so I can listen to them next year. They will be very hard to replace! :(

I listened to them on my clock radio as a kid....I will never forget the call during the Spurs game.

"That is a horse SH.. call !!"

    :D

So Gene and Jim are "Packin it in...packin it in....."

My most memorable moment: The referee walking off the court and calling Gene an **shole (the mic picked it up clear as day) at the end of the famous "shotclock" playoff game in Utah. Of course, the "Kiss of Death" and Eddie Johnson's shot in game 4 against the Jazz rank up there too.

Seems like many years ago Gene heard the complaints about him being too much of a homer and over-complaining about the refs. He changed and got better. Sometimes an old dog can learn new tricks.

DD, that was the single greatest candid moment in Houston sports broadcast history IMO... do you remember if it was a bad out-of-bounds call or did someone draw a charge that instead got called the other way?

'no... aw, that's BULLSH#T!' is how I remember it... listening from my raggedy bungalow in the Heights...

I too grew up with these guys in the 70's and while I realize that all good things run their course,it pains me to lose the Summit and now these icons. One would hope that this doesn't continue the trek down the road to eradicating the character of Houston Rockets BBall.

    "Payton drives the lane,walks...two.....horrrible call."

They will always be a part of the Rockets family.

I have a feeling though that we will all be celebrating titles soon.......ALL OF US!Our fixtures will be around.

I'll miss listening to them on the radio. I always waited for the "how sweet it is" line. Bah :(

They were the greatest! The VOICE of the Rockets. They will be sorely missed. Thanks for memories, and best wishes for a fulfilling retirement.

That line gave me joy and hope. I haven't lived in Houston for years. I miss listening to them.

When I lived in Houston, I loved going to games and listening to Gene on the radio at the same time. Now, because the radio waves don't reach San Antonio, I can't listen to Gene & Tim. I'd love to catch their last year, especially if given the choice of listening to Clyde repeat everything Bill Worrell says.

Does the radio station that does the broadcast now have a way for us out-of-rangers to listen on the internet?

You guys know I'm a baseball fan first...but these guys are the best in town BY FAR.

Gene Peterson's voice is so entrenched in my memory of the Rockets, it's hard to imagine listening to another voice for them.

Thanks to Gene and Jim...great work on behalf of Clutch City for a long time!!!

"turning, faking, leaning, turning, faking, leaning, turning, faking, leaning, foul - no call, turning, faking, leaning, turning, faking..."

Seriously, despite all their flaws, I grew up listening to Geno and Jim. I have found memories of being a 7 year old kid listening to the pregame show on the radio with my Dad on the way to The Summit back in the Rudy T Calvin Murphy (playing) days. Also, the post game show while driving home. They were a huge part of my childhood.

I never thought this day would come. I will miss them both tremendously. :(

I used to run at nite with my radio on - I loved jazz best. But, I ran at too mellow a pace. I switched to rock and was :30/min faster than jazz. I was onto something.

Then I tried Rox broadcasts and incrfeased another :45/min. Those guys got me going!

How sweet it (has been) is! I hope they do retire in the highest style possible - by broadcasting the Parade!!!

    Yeah!

As soon as we shove the old guys out the door, we can welcome the new generation of Rockets Broadcasting. Cynthia Cooper and Clyde Drexler!

Tinman or anyone else, I used to have the 710 Championship show recorded on a cassette but it broke down years ago, would you happen to have that show. The show featured Geno, Foley, and coach Fitch it was great with "We are the Champions" ending the show. :)
