I would just like to point out that Francis was not the firs one to use the name Dynasty for Yao Ming.In fact I used that name since the time of the Draft! Refering to Francis and Yao Ming as the Franchise/Dynasty!

Hey Yetti...the guy is from China and there was an actual Ming Dynasty in Chinese history. Let's just say, you might wanna save that trip to the copyright office.

Clutch reported that he had heard Steve wasn't too taken with the idea of drafting the big fella. He confirmed that much of TroyBaros' misguided rants (R.I.P.)

Now that Yao is proving himself far better than anyone imagined (at this stage of his career), of course he is coming around. Steve should be saying "holy sh**" more than any one of us as this 7'5" rook comes in and outplays Bradley, Duncan/Robinson, et al.

So let's say there's truth in both sides. Sure, Steve didn't like the idea of having to defer to a rookie, what he probably thought was an overhyped freak of marketing.

Lots of people have changed their minds about Yao. He's making lotsa journalists and NBA coaches/players say, "Hunh. Wow."

    Long live the Franchise Dynasty!

(or should it be, Long live the Dynasty Franchise!)?

Out of respect to the elder statesman, Franchise Dynasty. Plus, it sounds better.

He was. Yao was looking at him and laughing. This was the play where Steve was driving, got a feed from Yao, and tried to go up for a reverse dunk a la Dr. J/Clyde Drexler (but with 2 hands). I can't remember what happened, but Steve had the ball knocked out or something, but Ming had rolled to the basket (great decision, by the way) and got the rebound and threw it down. Immediately following the play, I think a timeout was called and you could see Francis and Yao joking on the sidelines where Steve was either showing how he intended to dunk that ball or how Yao could throw down that jam in a different manner.

All throughout the game you could see Yao laughing with other players on the sidelines. There was one time where he went to the bench and you could see a hand come from off-screen and pat him on the shoulder. Ming looked over and just smiled. Not sure who that was.

    They're coMING together nicely...

Can't wait till the same thing happens in a Finals game but this time with the game on the line...

"6 seconds left...Francis drives by his defender, flicks up a shot high the backboard...it's off...Yao's there on the other side and tips it in!!....Rockets Win! Rockets Win!"

    Sound familiar?

You are mistaken. I based it on the "Ole" Soccer Chant.

I have a favor to ask, keep your ears open for the song and post when you hear it...it's been popping up in Dallas, Atlanta, Toronto, San Fran...

My problem with what you guys are saying is that you make it seem like Steve just now recently accepted Yao. I'm sure Steve was hesitent right after they won the draft lottery, but after it became clear that the Rocks were going to draft Ming, you didn't hear anything negative from Steve. If Steve was against bringing Yao in until recently, well he must have felt pretty uncomfortable during the preseason when he was taking Ming under his wing and driving him to practice. I don't know why it's so hard for you guys to believe that Steve has been doing the right thing all along. The idea that he's been jealous of Yao until now is pretty ludicrous. We know that Francis isn't good at concealing his emotions, check out the 99' draft and you'll see what Steve looks like when he's upset.

I don't think anyone is suggesting he was the first to use the concept of the name. But, this may be the first time anyone has actually just called Yao "Dyansty" to his face or when referring to him.

There were quite a few headlines using "Ming Dynasty" and there is the obvious play on words. But, Francis is probably the first guy to say, "Ok, here's you nickname..." and start calling him by it in person and in public.

    Chance,

What happened to the Yao Ming Song anyway? Seeing how it's pretty much blown up in popularity along with Yao, did you take it off the cc.net site so you could collect royalties?

Do we now have to buy the Yao Ming Song to hear it?

    wow, this is weird.

Chance, I've never actually heard your song. at least not that I know of.

but I've seen people write the lyrics: "Yao Ming Yao Ming Yao Ming Yao Ming" etc.

and, without ever having heard your song, I always sang it in my head to the Ole theme.

    that's weird.

I don't know who exactly "you guys" are, but I'll respond.

all I was saying in my post is that, because Franchise is now calling Dynasty Dynasty doesn't mean that everything we ever heard about Steve being possibly disgruntled was untrue.

you're right to point out how, from Day 1 of camp Stevie has gone out of his way to make Ming feel welcome. and again, I applaud Stevie for doing that.

but just because he gives him a nickname now doesn't mean that Steve was elated from the first moment the thought of drafting Ming was hatched.

I don't really think that's what you're saying, either, but I wanted to clarify.

my opinion is that, somewhere between maybe the draft and Day 1 of camp, Stevie decided to make the best of his situation and do what he could to make it work.

now, I think another possible explanation for his outward embracing of Ming is that, like the rest of us, he's really stoked to find out the dude is a bad-ass.

he had already made up his mind to accept him and help him. but to paraphrase the great Rod Tidwell, he's loving him now.

I don't think I or anybody else is saying that "just because" he's giving the guy some personalized clothes, it means that Steve has always been positive on Yao. But you, on the other hand, are assuming that "just because" he gave Yao some clothes, it means that he has finally accepted him. You said that he is overcompensating to make up for doubting Yao early on in the season and that it is some sort of apology and an admission of guilt. Well, I'm just pointing out that Steve has been on the Yao wagon longer than you and some others have given him credit for. I'm pretty sure every player on that team has some free We R One clothes and I'm willing to bet Mobley has personalized clothes with "Cat" written on it. So instead of viewing this as some kind of turning point, you should see that it is just a nice gesture to a friend and teammate.

you "guys" are soooo funny, this is what this discussion sounds like:

" well, looking at all the quotes by stevie and articles stating that he is glad yao is here, it is clear that francis has always been taking care of yao and accepted him from the beginning"

"no, i think it is clear by the voices in my head and my total assumptions based on something someone else heard from somebody, that stevie is jelouse of yao and is only over-compinsating for his inferiority complex, and is begrudgingly accepting yao only 'cause he wants to win"

hmmm, i wonder which argument sounds better?

how 'bout we just enjoy this sunshine fer awhile?

    Chance,

According to the Chronicle, George Postolos sang your song to 150 Chinese basketball businessmen in Beijing and then again on a Chinese sports talk show "viewed by 70 million in China".

    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/1693375

I could swear I heard a clip of it once on an ESPN broadcast too.

Your song has really caught on - great job!
