so basically it's because of injuries that we missed the playoffs. i'll agree with that. but you said/implied that francis is saying that their playoff hopes for the next couple of years will hinder on ming's development. okay whatever. all i know is that this upcoming year, there won't be any more room for excuses being made by francis. if he gives it his all like he did his first 2 years, then fine. but if he's going to keep complaining about his teammates and continue bickering, there won't be any room for that.

I guess the NBA scouts and experts are all wrong when they objectively listed the strengths and weaknesses of Ming and Nachbar and they all admitted that both players are not strong low post players in terms of posting up and both are not good defenders?

what scouts or 'experts' are these? if i can recall, the logo jerry west himself, kiki vandeweghe, and rik barry all said that ming will become a very good player once he hits the weights and adapts to NBA life. strength is something that can be improved on. and ming not being a good defender? okay  . if he can outperform cato's 'defensive locks' on opponents than i'm satisfied.

And I guess Glenn Rice and Mo Taylor provide solid defense and rebounding as well huh?

they sure did. as much as cat and francis did.

Does being a true Rocket fan mean that one overlooks a blatant lack of effort, intensity and tenacity by our "soft" front court players (excluding Griffin and the often over matched KT?).

lack of effort is basically pinned on all of our players. name one player that gave a consistent effort night in and night out. this means ball control, minimal turnovers and consistent shooting. i'm not overlooking jack. you look at our front court. it comprised of:

    cat
    KT
    griffin
    TMo
    Collier
    Willis
    Williams

so you're telling me that you're expecting the same amount of 'effort, intensity, and tenacity' from them as you do from francis and mobley?? sorry man but that's stupid. you know and i know that that front court (sans griffin) is no where near in comparison as francis and mobley. if you don't want "soft" players like ming, nachbar, MoTaylor, etc. what kind of "hard" player do you like? ben wallace? mutumbo? well i'm sorry but there's no way that the rockets can get those players.

First, it’s supposing that Steve is paranoid, not completely rational. And as far as drafting anyone being a sign of lack of confidence: that's not my opinion, but in this way of thinking it could be. Didn't Cat and Steve lobby for Odom, possibly instead of a high pick?

Second, drafting Ming is both a long term basketball commitment with an immediate financial/marketing impact. So, one way Steve could take it would be a lack of commitment by the front office to make the playoffs next year--instead they are focusing on Griffin and Ming as being the centerpieces of the Rox. It’s a change of focus I’m talking about, not a complete lack of confidence in Francis. Even if it were, arguably Jay Williams is still not a better pick than Ming for the long term (insert Ming’s unique combination of physique, skills, ability, world-wide appeal).

Someone in this board has blown Francis' words out of proportion. francis is just being cautious. I'm willing to bet that Francis signs for the most years and most money. Webber's team weer everything but the Lakers, yet he still complained before he signed.

Baron Davis was handed the role of "The Man", yet he still complained.

Everyone thinks about these thing. Francis is just one of the people who are vocal about it.

You think he's going to bail on Cat? Rudy?

He's staying long-term, if the Rockets want him. We're taking a big risk in offering him 7 years. This meniere's disease might last through all 7 years.

Francis for 6 years at $85 million sounds even better.
