whether healthy or not, Steve Francis starting would destroy the chemistry of this team...on and off the court.

Francis doesn't know how to run an offense. It's basically, 'i'm gonna try to break his ankles.'

and then you have the mike james factor. i'd imagine MJ wouldn't be too happy about it. think about it. you're the best point guard on your team who is already coming off the bench. then, all of a sudden they're gonna promote the 10th man on the squad ahead of you? he'd be pissed and has every right to be.

How about Rocket Lovers? Is that okay. I for 1 like Stevie and I think people are reading way too much into his words. He has always been a bit of a primadonna but he plays so hard on the court that you gotta love him. I see a place for him on this team but not as the ballhog he once was. Adelman seems to be being fair to him unlike JVG who would have already thrown him in the doghouse for the season. So hopefully it works out and he helps us be a better team. But if not adios Stevie. Good luck to you and go Rockets!

On a side note I really like this team. The comaraderie is better than ever and there are almost no egos on the team. Oh and for those complaining about stevie not being a team player, I clearly saw him cheering on the team last night.

That's a much better quote than the OP quoted. Why the hate, at least be impartial.

I want francis to work out here, too. I am not a die hard fan, but I admire the guy's heart on court.

Thats just it, Rocks. I DO like Francis. I just dont think his attitude is showing he is as humble as he claimed to be in his press conference/media day. I really do like Steve and I really want to see it work out.

Its kind of like Vince Young. I really liked the guy at UT, but all the people around here making him out to be the messiah really turned me against him...

Seems to me people see only want they want to see. Twisting the truth, twisting the words, numbers to make their own point. IMO, Steve has alot of heart and wants a chance to get on the court. Is that the wrong attiutde? Everyone is saying how out of shape he is, but know body brings up that he practically sat out for two seasons. Nobody brings up he hired a personal trainer in New Orleans to help get himself into shape. He didn't have to do that, but he did. Those are some facts for ya. He also has said "that he would do want ever the team needs him to do". Please get a grip.

Can't pass up a chance to bash, here.

Steve went to to junior colleges and Maryland. Defecated all over Vancouver and was included as baggage in a no brainer trade for TMac. Then made his act wear thin in two other stops before being bought out by a team desperately in need of just the kind of veteran court leadership that his fans think he has, (but apparently does not).

Now he comes in, not with a sense of hunger and an urgency to prove everyone wrong, but a sense of entitlement. "Hey, I am Steve effing Francis , please hand me my sceptor and vacate my thrown."

Does anyone see a pattern of arrogance with a little prima donna thrown in here.

He was obviously brought in to compete for a spot but someone forgot to tell him this fact.

I have not heard of one rumor where he is being sought in trade. You would think if he is as good as his fans think that the Clippers or Heat would be calling. He costs nothing and could be had for a song. Still no one looking for a former All-Star to back up their starter. There is a reason folks.

No one is calling. I wonder why?

steve went to junior colleges because he couldn't play high school ball, and he basically worked his way up from a summer league high school player to junior college to maryland to the number two pick in the draft.

he has had everything handed to him. i mean, all star players have to work like that to get to the nba. you're exactly right.

Well, considering that we just signed him in the offseason and there is a rule where you can't trade that player for 90-days. Same with James, him or Francis won't be getting traded anytime soon. At least know your info before you try to hate because it makes you look like an idiot.

And since when did members on here become certified psychologist? Dudes analyzing his character based on written text. Stop reaching folks, it's not healthy.

umm... no one is calling because he just signed as a free agent with houston...

a bunch of people, including steve himself, thought that he was an immediate starter. i dont like rafer, but damn he was running the offense really well in preseason. after a couple of games everyone was thinking - francis doesnt fit. if he is patient, he will play. im a big sf3 fan - everytime the camera pans to our bench's side of the court - im looking to see what he's doing, or what his body language is during timeouts.

"Hey, I am Steve effing Francis , please hand me my sceptor and vacate my thrown."

cmone man - a little blown out of proportion here. portland has a direction with their entire young squad and sick guards. seriously though, if someone is that much of a competitor, wants to play, loves houston, feels like he can contribute - but things arent quite working the way he had foreseen - how the heck can you expect him to sit still and smile. haters are feeding off of it.. fans are hoping he can hang in there. i hope he hangs in there.

we just beat LA and Utah - so, francis playing or not - im happy

At least he wasn't lying on the floor crying like he did in LA against the Jazz.

Steve will get his chance. Someone will get hurt or Rafer will finally brick and bad pass himself out of the rotation. ;)

For right now he has to keep a positive attitude and be ready.

I think the real question is.... If Steve get some meaningful minutes this season will you explode from spontaneous combustion?

I like Steve a lot, I liked him while he was here the first time around, I like him as a person. I like the heart he brings into his game.

That said, I think many supporters have the idea that he's still the uber-athletic guy with range that he was the first go-round with us. I really don't think he is much more than a shadow of that guy.

Also, it was clear by year 3 or 4 with us that Steve had to dominate the ball to be effective on the court. He couldn't or wouldn't make players around him better. When he went to the All-Star game with Yao, I recall Oscar Robertson admonishing him when Steve was harping about not making the playoffs. Big O called him out and told him that it was his responsibility as a point to get the rest of the team to shine. Steve never seemed to take that heart.

Steve gets Yao, he shies from feeding him the ball because he (rightly, at the time) felt that he and Cat were the better offensive options and should therefore be taking the shots. Steve goes to Orlando, similarly ices out Dwight Howard, and falls out of favor with the coaches. Steve goes to New York, struggles with not being a primary scoring option, and falls out of favor again. All three stops include at least one incident of Steve acting out and becoming a distraction.

The truth is, Steve is one of the NBA equivalents to running QBs in the NFL. Guys like Vick make a splash, but rarely take their teams anywhere meaningful. In the NBA, guys like Marbury are the same way. Steve, unfortunately is in that group. When guys supposed to deliver the ball are consumed with holding the ball and scoring on their own, it holds the team back.

Love Steve, but this might not work out unless he has a face to face with Jesus.

    Evan
