An offensive minded coach is great, but let's not be so quick to dismiss JVG's defense that probably accounted for many victories this season.

NBA sources tell FOX 26 Sports former NBA head coach Rick Adelman has interviewed with Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander to become the franchise's next head coach.

League sources tell Fox 26 Adelman flew from Portland to Alexander's home in South Hampton, New York to meet with the Rockets' owner. The sources tell FOX 26 Alexander is focusing on Adelman to become head coach of the Rockets.

Jeff Van Gundy is still currently head coach of the team. The guaranteed portion of his contract expires June 30th. He still has one non-guaranteed year left on his deal with both sides retaining the right to opt out. Van Gundy has been the Rockets head coach for four years.

Adelman has been the head coach at Portland for six years, at Golden State for two years, and at Sacramento for seven years. He took Portland to the NBA Finals twice.

Alexander and Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey have not been available for comment

Wow. That's cool. I mean, we haven't made it past the first round in YEARS - the least they can do is give us a coach that will provide entertaining basketball.

Best case scenario - after combining the defensive intensity JVG has instilled in our players with Adelman's Princeton offense we find a best of both worlds balance and become legitimate contenders.

Worst case scenario - the regular season is more fun to watch but we still lose in the first round.

    I can live with that.

maybe the rockets are reluctant to give him a long term contract? another multi-year contract would likely see through the rest of the tmac-yao era.

Yeah, heard it on radio on my way back home.

At least the organization seems to be listening to the majority sentiment on this board, which is to go after Adelman if JVG is let go.

He's the best choice out there and can bring the type of offensive 'creativity' or 'fluidity' Le$ -- reportedly -- is looking for.

    Bye bye Van Gundy.

Please let this be true (not Adelman, but VG being given the boot)!

    My guess is:

the Rockets condition = More offense, enternating basketball.

JVG's condition = spend the money to get me more talent and I'll get you more points.

or they still want jvg on board but in leaking this to the press they're putting pressure on jvg to make up his mind quicker.

On the T-Mac issue: Difference of opinion you think he disappeared against Utah, I say his team pulled the better Houdini act. Do you honestly expect him play point-forward and win? Get him a playmaker pg and see how he lights the league up again. Ever since we trade Francis for him, Rockets haven't been able to get a decent PG to run the offense so we are stuck having T-Mac run all the plays and create virtual every shot anyone takes on this team. Over time teams figure lets just double him and see how his team can be us.

On Chris Webber: This is the same guy who signed a $120 million contract they blew out his knee and took a vacation. Funny thing is that everyone was debating whether his team was better without him? Their record showed that they were much better without him and they played one season 50 games sans Webber and had one of the best record in the league. Have you forgotten that already?

    Wow.

Looking for a coach without knowing what the current coach is going to do?

    Odd....

re-read it. there is no news about sam mitchell. it says that "a" team has asked for permission to talk, but that team was not the rockets.

    EXCELLENT!!!

And as far as JVG goes...C'mon,the guy is done here. The Rockets are handling the situation in a classy way to help him with that next gig.
    His contract is up anyway.

It will be nice to come here and not see any threads on firing the head coach next season, Adelman is a great choice and seems to be the fans choice aswell.

From my understanding, on July 1, it doesn't matter what JVG wants to do. Lets say he decides to come back. Well, next year is not guaranteed. Either side can opt out. He could end up embarassed.

One thing about Adelman is that he can run a high scoring offense with somewhat unatheletic players. His best SAC teams featured a chain-smoking center and no-one really high flying except for Webber back in his healthy days. They were certainly not the Suns or the Warriors of this year.

Another thing I like about him is he can deal with knuckleheads better than almost anyone. That Kings team sure fell apart chemistry-wise when Ademan left. Artest said he would give up his salary so the Kings could pay Adelman. I wonder if this would mean Ronnie would try to get himself traded to Houston if Rick is here.

And of course, the fact that Adelman looks like Hitler is a plus.
