Adelman might just use Juwan as PF. or draft Yi.

This is news to me, a very close source told me that Del Harris would be the Rockets target, so either that person was off or Rick is just one of many to get an interview.

    IMO-JVG>Adelman
    JVG>Harris

    but Harris>Adelman

Like I have said in many threads, I thought it would be Harris but I was/am sure it will be a name everyone knows

I'm afraid that I must differ with you on this misconception about what a coach can or cannot do. All a head coach (or any coach for that matter) can do is to make sure that he has his team prepared to play. One the game starts, the coach is responsible for managing the game by executing the strategy outlined in the gameplan. From that point onward, it is up to the players to put out their best on the court. We are talking about professionals who get paid very well to play a game and to assert that the coach is responsible for how hard they play is simply wrong.

Now, has it ever been said that JVG failed to have his team prepared to play? No. To a man, the Rockets players have said over and over that they were thoroughly prepared for each game. I find it somewhat amusing that so many people want to blame JVG for what happened against Utah but choose to remain silent about the responsibility of the players in the series loss.

Mr. "It's On Me" gets a pass because it was the coach who didn't make him play any better. No Rockets player could guard Okur but that was the coach's fault as well because he should have been able to get his frontline players to match up better. The coach should have made Yao into a faster player not to mention causing Chuck Hayes to grow an extra 4 inches I suppose. The Utah guards completely outplayed the Rockets guards and again, JVG was at fault because his guards didn't give their best out there. Yet, once Rick Adelman (or whoever becomes coach) all of these issues will disappear because Adelman makes his players put out the best on the court. And when that fails to happen what then?

I wouldn't mind giving van gundy one more year but if or when he is replaced, the only viable option to me is Adelman...however, is Adelman reallygoign to be ablet o get more offense out of these players? we missed open shot after open shot...i don't think Adellman can fix that...at leat, can gundy could teach defense and get somethign out of them....what if we don't get defense out of them with Adelamn and we still can't get any offense...we aer screwed

adelman defense >>>>>>>> warriors defense >>>> which is NO DEFENSe

if we play no defense and rafer still can't shoot straight= bad offense and bad defense....THEN WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At leat with JVG we had a really good defense...you can teach defense..
can you teach how to shoot better? Our problem was that we couldn't hit wide open shots...can adelman really fix that? I don't think so... :(

JVG is perfect in this department. I can see JVG sticked to a single game plan for 7 playoff games. The gameplan must be written well before (a month or a year ago?) the playoffs.

Now I understand why there was 2:0, and then 1:4....... They cheated, they changed their gameplan!

If Adelman is hired, expect Yao to work on his jumper this summer. It's going to be a whole different Yao.

And we can have a chance to see Yao's feeling about the game by making quick decisions, passing or shooting, at his will.

    oh of course.

it makes tons more sense to take the 7'6" guy away from the basket. let's have him shoot jumpers instead of get good position down low.

if that's rick adelman basketball, you can keep it.

the only thread I started was a poll with a simple yes or no answer on the question of would you be happy if Del Harris became the Rockets coach. I was told by someone (can't say who it is till there is a new coach) very close to the situation that Del Harris was choice #1. I never said it was a slam dunk I just said I had good reason to belive this would happen and until today the only article out there from the chron listed Rick, Del and Larry Brown on the short list. Now today it says that Rick is the front runner.

I would never start a rumor thread without a source. My source is a person who I belive, who has a track record of being right. I was just sharring without saying it was gonna happen for sure.

he does own a "modest" (for an NBA owner's standard) pad near uptown area, but if you were an NBA team owner withe lots of manoey.....would you spend your summer days in houston? plus as many of us know his primary residence is in Florida..(at least when he bought the team in '94)

Thanks. If it was simply a matter of who's the head coach, then the Lakers would still be playing because their coach has won more NBA championships than all of those coaches still in it combined.

he has to mix it up.. some jumpers, some low post positioning.. some picks.. smart basketball.. if his jumpers go in or he can make passes to cutters, no need to waste his energy battling down low or setting picks up high..

unlike jvg which is either set a pick or position down low.. no wonder yao runs out of energy by the end of the game

    Huh?

Max, come on, you know that it is not all or nothing, it is about variety and mixing it up a bit.

Making it HARDER for Utah to guard Yao because of the different sets.

Mix in a little zone on defense a little high post on offense, and the Rockets become a harder team to prepare for with more options during games when something is not working.
