well ****, if you'd attend more matches in sugarland than let's call the city and the team and tell them it's either sugarland or nothing.

i dont know what they were thinking not accommodating your needs!

All we need is 2 stadiums right next to each other again. Look at the astrodome and reliant stadium. Why can't they use the astrodome? It is not being used. All they need to do is tear down the roof and call it a soccer stadium.

The Astrodome is way too big. They're looking to build a stadium in the 20-22K seat range, for the crowds they would get there's really no good reason to put it in a stadium the size of the Dome.

renovating the Astrodome would cost more than building a new stadium altogether. Moreover, the astrodome is way to big. The team can keep ticket prices down by having a smaller venue that they more fully utilize.

Guys. the astrodome sucks ass. It always has. Yes, it has an emotional connection to the city but as a sports venue, it's awful. The slight lines sucked in football and they would suck in soccer.

The only reason it's still here is because they can't tear it down with Reliant Stadium being so close.

oh, and the county has already committed the astrodome to private developers for a hotel. don't let that sneaky fact enter the picture. :)

I'm pretty sure they can tear it down, even though it would be a pain. But the dome is a big piece of Houston and stadium history. It would be nice if we could find SOME use for it so we didn't have to tear down EVERYTHING in this town that wasn't built 10 years ago.

It should be nice to have the Dynamo stadium in downtown and hopefully it'll help attract more business to the area.

Well I don't think the Dynamo stadium will attract anything to the area. Heck MMP barley attracted anything. Other than those apartments and some lofts where the soccer stadium will go and then the Hotel and a few bars off Texas. But it is another piece of the puzzle and with the Pavillons being built and the downtown park on the way things are looking good.

Main thing is this will keep the hard core inner loop fans coming plus a nicer place than the Rob will attract families. Hell anything is an upgrade over the UH stadium with it's rat traps in the restrooms.

you're exactly right. by itself it won't attract anything. but the idea is to have venues down there which are attracting visitors nearly every single day/night. visitors that amount to paying customers for surrounding businesses.

    Don't be so sure.

I don't know about MMP not bringing anything. The way that area looks now and the way it looked before Toyota Center and MMP were built is a pretty significant change.

In two years the area around Toyota Center will look bad ass. Main Street and around the theater district is looking good as well. Of course the area around MMP looks better but it's not close to what we were promised. I live in the neigborhood east of downtown (6 blocks east of the GRB) so I know what I am talking about.

Yes things are rounding into shape but trust me the dynamo stadium will have little to no effect on anyone but the dynamo.

Dynamo needs downtown more than downtown needs the dynamo.

i've hit on this a few times here before. i'm with you. it's nowhere near what was expected. it's nowhere near what they have in colorado or baltimore...the two models we were looking at.

don't get me wrong...I LOVE MMP!!! seriously, it's my favorite place in houston. i love the 'stros...i love union station...the whole thing. love it. i just wish the surrounding area had grown up.

    two problems

#1 other than an event here or there it's only baseball at MMP so your looking at maybe 90 days out of the year

#2 the area around TC is much nicer and having the hotel and the park shops made putting the pavillons there instead of over by the sleezy bail bonds places by MMP an easy choice.

Best thing that has ever happened for future projects around MMP is the fact the Central Park is getting built and if some developer is smart he will build a multi use high rise with shops and bars on the street level.

Still waiting for the high rise that was gonna tower over left field to be built.

these things take time.... it's not gonna happen overnight. comparing the area now to 7 years ago, i'd say there's been some solid improvements... and there's still more to come.

that part of town - especially the eastside of 59 - used to be the G-H-E-T-T-O.

I am pretty happy about this and just hope that they actually work something out soon. Also hoping for a slight bump in size into the 25,000+ seat range, but beggars can't be choosers.

They finance these things with hotel and rental car taxes. Unless you get kicked out of your house a lot, you aren't going to be paying for the stadium.

I think MMP has made a huge difference. Without it, the bastketball arena and convention hilton hotel aren't built. The new restaurants and renovations on that side of downtown aren't built. Light rail isn't built. The new Huge park/ lake (Discovery Green) and entertainment complex isn't built in front of the convention center.

MMP brought people downtown and helped get the ball rolling on development. You can't just look at the lots across the street from the stadium to access the impact the stadium has had

no question about that. but those things moved a helluva lot quicker in baltimore and denver. i think that was the expectation.
