Well that's actually a good thing since he's a terrible FT shooter.

He throws a better lob pass than Lin and Bev.. He will get the ball to Dwight when and where it needs to get to him..Im not saying hes a superstar, but can we agree that Rondo is an upgrade (as a pure point guard) as to what we have..

He'd be an improvement in some ways and a downgrade in others. If we could trade Lin for him straight up, I'd probably do it. Unfortunately they are asking WAY too much for him and I wouldn't want to kill the depth on the team in order to get a guy who doesn't even fit on the team to begin with.

Let me preface this by saying I am only talking about Rondo today. I've only seen parts of one Boston game since he returned this year.

He was comparable to Beverley defensively in that game. Offensively, other team packed paint and allowed him to shoot open jump shots. He did hit some, but it didn't look like he wanted to shoot them.

Boston's offense was a complete mess. Defense just waited for Rondo to drive into a swarm and then he would kick out to player who took a contested jump shoot. I did not see him throw a lob pass. He didn't get any hockey assists (i.e. guy that catches his pass shoots it and never makes an extra pass).

From what I saw, I would rather have Beverley on Rockets.

When I look at stats, they don't contradict what I saw. He does not improve the Celtics offense. The Celtics are scoring 1.14 points per Rondo assist opportunity without taking turnovers into account. Factor in his turnovers...might as well just let Harden play isolation all game (This is not meant to be a compliment). When I think "pure point guard", I think a guy that makes high percentage shots for his teammates and actually improves the offense. He is replacing Avery Bradley...you should be able to see an overall improvement in the offense.

I'd rather have Beverley until Rondo proves he can create offense.

Rondo could be a good player again. I just haven't seen him be an average player in at least two seasons. He's been injured a lot.

Yeah. That pretty much sums it up. The question is not can Rondo be an average player again, but was he ever anything but an average player in his career? Playing with Allen, Pierce and Garnett makes it ever so difficult to assess a point guards abilities.

You do know before the injury everybody in the media, players who played the game before and several Coaches were calling Rondo a Superstar. That is why the Celtics IMO let everybody go. If dude returns to form they might believe its possible to build a team around him. Or use him to land another SS player through a trade.

Add in his defense is better than both of them. He also plays the game with a serious chip on his shoulders. Playoff's experience and a NBA Champion.

You do know that knowledgeable people have been stating for 4 years (since that is how long Ainge has been trying to trade his sorry ass) that assessing Rondo as a player is impossible. And Ainge is doing his yearly Rondo ass parade around the league. Ainge has never gotten any takers.

Name me the freaking Knowledgeable people who stated it's impossible to assess Rondo as a player? I've heard knowledgeable people state he is a freaking Superstar, especially before the injury. ( I guess Jeff Van Gundy, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and host of other are not knowledgeable basketball people).
It is clear to me now that you are allowing your hate towards the man to sway your assessment. You can't use rumors as a source to validate your claim like that jtr. And whats up with the hostility in your fingers. No need to get upset pimpn. bwhahahahaah

Beyond 2015 when Lin, Asik and some others expires. I believe team Dragic wanted an expiring contract at 2016.

Yes, he was an above average player. He was a demon defensively impacting a game on that side of the ball better than most centers. He made enough of his attempts to be a below average scorer in terms of efficiency instead of the sub-Thomas Robinsonian efficiency he's been sporting the past 3 or 4 seasons. He actually created offense when he was on the court that made up and then some for his below average shooting.

He has never been my type of player on the offensive side. He was a good player and probably flirted with being a top 30 player in the NBA 4 years ago.

JTR was it hard to assess Dennis Johnson game since he played with several HOF players?

Going back and finding Rondo assessments is difficult in google. But Ainge trying to trade him:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...racker-latest-updates-for-boston-celtics-star
    http://www.indycornrows.com/2011/11...acers-trade-rumors-rajon-rondo-boston-celtics
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2010/news/story?page=Rondo-Chapter8

I can tell you that I have been the same stats head looking for good analytics articles that I am now for years. Rondo has been impossible to assess. Playing with Garnett, Pierce and Allen (three sure fir HOF's) makes Rondo's contributions difficult to glean out. So, I have to ask, what exactly has Rondo done in the last 3 years that deserves praise? Were not the Celtics a better team last season after Rondo went down?

And I have never seen a knowledgeable person refer to Rondo as a super star. And I never will.

At this point, we need the Codman to come out and confirm it was Rondo now that the cat is out of the bag.

It's clear Morey wants cap space in 2015 unless he can trade for a star before then. So IMO everything except 2015 capspace is irrelevant in his mind. Yes, Durant becomes FA in 2016, but that's a REALLY long time off and the Rockets don't have the luxury to wait 3 years on something that may or may not happen. 2015 FA has multiple star players, so the Rockets should feel confident at least one of them will sign here.

That is a bold face lie, if you follow basketball like you claim. Then you most definitely heard a lot of people call him a Superstar before theinjury. Im not one of theses people that make up **** to tailor my debate. I know what I've heard from the cast on both ESPN and TNT. We all know dude was being shopped around but at that time nobody was offering equal value .

You and this knowledgeable crap needs to stop. Like I said you dont consider Jeff Gundy and the others I mentioned knowledgeable. Lol I will take their word over yours any freaking day of the week.

I dunno top 30 might be a little bit of a stretch, he was maybe fifth best on his team and there's 32 teams in the nba. Albeit the celtics used to be at least decent with Garnett pierce and Allen, but I still think he was probably closer to the 50 60 range, and now he's probably fallen off to maybe 150?
