Are you serious? Rice? Dowell will get a ton of minutes w/ the Owls but what's the point. He's not going NBA or even NBDL, might as well have some fun during your college years, and atleast give yourself a chance to win some games.

    ^^^
A poster who is oblivious to the fact that many students select a school to actually get an education.

Dion Dowell is a smart if he signs with Rice. He wouldn't have gotten any PT with UH. UH doesn't need know selfish players who only want minutes. He will get all the minutes he wants with Rice because they are horrible, they lost to Yale at home and some school called Murray State.

It must sting then that he chose UT and UH over Rice.

That is true for most students, it's usually not the same case for most athletes.

But if that's the case, why would have initially chosen UT or UH over Rice like Nike said. I don't see a lot of sophomores leaving a Final Four contendor team to get an education.

    1) In HS, he had dreams of going pro and wanted the media attention that UT brings
    2) After getting there and getting no playing time, he realized it wasn't working out
    3) He figured that more PT at either Rice or UH would help him
    4) He chose the best education once his pro-aspirations were humbled

I guess the UT education wasn't enough for Dion to stick around...

You just admitted yourself that the reason he is transferring is because of PT. If a UT education wasn't enough for him to stick around, why would he even consider UH first over Rice (no offense to UH)?

Did Dion tell you this straight up? Or are you just making assumptions? You could be right, Dion could have picked Rice for the education. But that doesn't negate the fact that he chose UT and UH before deciding to go to Rice, which automatically gives the sense that education isn't the first thing on his mind since he would have chosen Rice over UH pretty quickly. It seems a little more than obvious that Dion knew he wasn't going to get PT with both UT and UH and decided to go to Rice where he knew he would be the best player on the team hands down.

I've read where at his mothers urgeing he is going to enroll at UH.If he wants the better education we all know Rice is a good school, but UH is too it all depends on what major you decide on.If he wants to be on a team that sucks maybe he should go to Rice, but if he wants to win and go to the big dance he should become a Coog.

that is true about UH, it is a good school for some majors. but dowell needs to learn to play defense and get a consistent jumper before he starts demanding playing time. he did that with rick barnes and rick said....you want more PT, become a better all around player and you'll get it. he took offense and now he's leaving. too bad wherever he goes next, that coach will demand the same thing.

again, i wish dion the best but he going to have to put in the work to become a better player for him to get more playing time, regardless of where he ends up.
