League sources said the Cavs have expressed interest in 16-year veteran center Dikembe Mutombo. He has been offered a contract to stay with the Houston Rockets but has not signed while he considers options. Most think that he is likely to stay in Houston. article link
Mutombo is not a good fit for RA'system, so he decides to wait, a good decision, but Rafer needs to go for a post for others.
i like deke, but if he doesn't want to play for the whole season, then he just needs to sign with cleveland.
man they don't want deke. deke's elbows are going to knock out lebron james my friend. in all seriousness, w/ juwan gone (though he was HORRIBLE in the playoffs, he was that veteran). deke is well-respected and he's a great locker room guy. we need to keep him. but i'm not sure if deke wants to play a lil here and there. i'm sure he wants a role where he can still contribute in an important way. i wish deke the best but i sure hope he remains with the team. it's unfortunate we can't get out of the first round and advance farther so he can fulfill his dream of winning a ring.
i want deke to stay, too. but the rockets have too many new players, new coaches, and a new system to start learning it in the middle of the season.
but its deke...he's always done the same thing. Grab rebounds and block shots. I think he's been around long enough to pick up a new system quickly
Have to agree. Time to move on, best thing that could happen is for another team to make Deke a better offer so we can get some roster flexibility. Deke is great but his spot could be used by one of the young kids.
but those youngs kids arent 1) centers or 2) known to even be productive. Why have young crap at the end of the bench...crap is crap regardless of age. oh course he is insurance, just like he was insurance last year when yao went out. Its not butler or deke. butler will stay regardless if deke stays. (unless the comes into camp 500lbs). But butler isnt even a center...sure he can play spot minutes there but he doesnt really shut the paint down.
But we aren't going to play the same style of slow down grind it out game. Deke can not run up and down the floor anymore. He has had a great career, even Dream had to hang em up sometime. I just don't think he fits, not a good shooter, not a good pick and roll player, not a good high post player....the only things he can do decently anymore are rebound and block shots. I just think there are better options at the backup C postion, play 2 PFs instead of a center when Yao goes out. Deke....I love ya man, but IMO, it is time to mosey on down the road. DD
yao cannot run up and down the floor either! so i guess yao shouldnt come back either, right? come one. deke runs the floor better than yao. yes he isnt good at some of the things you mentioned. but he is GREAT at rebounding and defending..something no one else on the team is great at in the front court. like you say, a coach should be able adjust to his personnel, right? afterall, isnt that what you consider a good coach? what better options at backup C? i hope you arent referring to butler, because thats laughable.
Mutombo is a Van Gundy type through and through. What's admirable about him is what's admirable about Van Gundy. But as much as I respect Deke, he makes no sense in an Adelman world.
deke is like an older chuck hayes. he plays defense, grabs rebounds, does the small things. he doesn't need the ball to do his job. so he would fit in perfectly. but i'm not sure adelman has a use for him b/c i think he wants yao to play a lot of mins and he probably wants to go w/ a smaller lineup when yao is out.
What are you talking about, he wasn't manhandled by Boozer what are you smoking? He barely matched up against Boozer.
I have said it before and I say it again: Mutombo should retire and be satisfied with the great gifts which God has given him and the huge amount of money that he has been paid. He should take time with his family and bring up his children. His playing era is about over! By the way if Hakeem would like to play 10 mins a game I would welcome him back.

I think the rcets just wanna see where Butler is at. he's young and has a pretty good low post game. i think ya folks are gonna be suprised how good this kid is on offense. not to mention that he is a pretty handy hot blocker to.
don't forget about those sharp elbows, although i wish he would hit players from the other team rather than his own teammates!
