we will know if this all pays off next postseason, not the reg. season. i hope yao can get to the superstar level that we all want him to become. he's really worked his butts off. ppl might think i dislike yao but it's just frustrating for me after how he played v. the jazz. i had high hopes for him. i was expecting him to be the most dominant player in that series, not tracy when the series started. i thought yao would put up RIDICULOUS #s and force constant double teams freeing up tracy. the injury may be part of that but that didn't happen. i think b/c of this series, it pushes yao to seek more help, esp. from hakeem. the thing about yao is that he is a student of the game. a great student at that. but again, all this is all mental w/ him. what hakeem and dawson are teaching is not something major. yao just has to get that mentality, "no one can stop me." get good position. and he's unstoppable. but morei mportant, become an intimidator on defense and be a more dominant rebounder. when that happens, he'll be mentioned w/ the best. hakeem's greatness is not that he can score on people (though he can on anybody anytime). but his greatness is he can change a game on just his defense alone. either through blocks/steals/altering shots. hopefully yao gets that - to become a better all-around player.
I might be the very few ones here believing what you said that CD was pushed out by Les. Most fans here do not "think", they just trust what the team wants them to believe. With the bad draft history, bad FA signing, so many years one and out, any sane owner would want CD out. It just took Les so many years to finally realize enough is enough. The Battier trade is just too little too late. I can not tell whether Thibodeau or CD is better though, but one thing is for sure, if Yao can remain healthy next season, he will be dominant; I still remembered watching him against the Spurs before he got injuried last season, He was QUICK and dominant. I was shocked by how quick he was. I think Spurs players also were in shock. Even after Yao got into foul trouble, Spurs could not recover to win the game. After the injury though, he was slow. However, if he can not be healthy next season, then he won't realize his potential.
yeah he poisoned alot of peoples chances for advancement at toyota center..and poisoned alot of relationships...believe what you will...the truth will never come out except now its on cd...yao better be better than he was last year before the injury and they better win more
Are you TT? You are riding his jock pretty hard. If you aren't some kind of insider in the org then you seriously need to shutup on this topic. Unfounded opinions are prevalent enough on this board. Please limit your unfounded opinions to non-attacks on people's characters and bodies of work. I don't know who is a better coach, TT or CD. If I had to guess they are probably pretty equal. However, they probably don't teach the same things, so having Yao work with both is a bonus. Working with Hakeem is another bonus. Bring in Kareem, the center who I think Yao is most like. Bring in Robinson (ok maybe not ). The more teachers, the better.
I am glad Yao is getting some additional training. CD has a history of teaching big men power moves like the jump hook. Yao needs a go to move, so that he can then counter off of that one move. Good for the Rockets. DD
I think Yao already has all those moves. It's all a mental game. Yao just needs to overcome that and stay healthy.
Is Yao the onley player in the league who is still practising? Others seam to be enjoying their vacations.
Maybe Ewing can show Yao which the night club in Houston is the best one if Yao need the information. TT was doing nice jobs for Yao, and now CD is doing it freely. It is nice for the Rox.
yao already has a jump hook and a counter...how do you think he scores 25 a game as a limited athlete? i wonder if dadumb and his cd lovin crew either watch the games or know anything about basketball and basketball coaching
Did anyone catch Dan Patrick on Friday? Appearantly he had dinner with Mark Jackson and Ewing while working the finals and he basically told Ewing to his face that he couldn't hold Dreams jockstrap. Anyway kinda off the subject, but its pretty clear to me that very few non biased people would take tutoring from Ewing as more valuable than tutoring from Dream (and by extention CD). So JVG, in this aspect, definitly dropped the ball, in getting Yao the best help possible.
dropped the ball...yao went from 13 to 25 points a game in the 4 years together? you guys think hakeem and cd would have done better where exactly? cd's the greatest of all time....
see this is what i have a problem with. Being a great player doesnt mean you are a great teacher. Sorry, but thats a totally false assumption. And again, ewing wasnt yao's tutor! like you said, CD taught dream...was CD some great player? I keep seeing people make these comments and they are just silly.
Hey TT. Do you have an off button? Your points are clear. You Hate CD. You love yourself. Yao is going to suck because you aren't coaching him. Nobody can have an opinion but you on this subject. Did I miss anything? Now crawl back under the rock you've been hiding under and not post until the next CD thread so we can hear again how much you hate him!!!!
The point is you look for the best help, some great players are great coaches, (Lenny Wilkins, Paul Silas, Hienson), but you just don't hire who you're comfortable with. My point is Ewings hiring was lazy on JVG's part.
