Great, next year you draft David Carr/Houston Texans and I'll draft Vince Young/Anytown USA in our fantasy league* *unless he is sitting behind Steve McNair for a year.* *in a league that gives points for carries
Longhorn fans continue to cry foul. :\ They'll forget all about vince once DBrick or Bush start breaking out.
Man, Carr has done nothing special. I've seen no signs of him being a special player. You'll just like like him for the fact he was the face of the franchise. But what you'll fail to realize is he was the first and biggest mistake of the franchise also. There is no doubt VY will be a better player than Carr and when it's all said and done; and if not, you'll can say I told you so. But when the Texans don't make the playoffs for the next 4-5 years again, and you'll are still saying Carr needs time or coaching or an O line, then I'll be shocked.
I'm telling you, we're gonna draft Young and sit him behind Carr for a year. Then we're gonna light up the offense with Kubiak running the show. Carr is gonna pass for some crazy 3,000 yards+ and his trade value is gonna go through the roof. If the Raiders don't fix their QB problems by getting Culpepper, then we are gonna be able to deal Carr either there or to a team like Miami after next season for some quality players and a draft pick or two. Then we'll load the team up and go to war with Vince for the next 14 years or so. or Somebody is gonna offer us a Herschel Walker type trade, where they break the bank with picks and players in exchange for the rights to the #1 pick. If that happens, I suspect the Texans will do the deal. It's gotta be a no brainer though, maybe like 3 first rounders, 2 second rounders, and 3 third rounders, a whole pile of picks. If we do not get a king's ransom for the first pick, we are gonna take Vince. Watch it happen.
If Vince goes nuts with the Titans we'll never hear the end of the belly aching, even if the Texans (no matter who they draft/trade for) win a frickin' super bowl. As you've seen through the past month, it's really hard to reason with the VY crowd. I wouldn't expect them to come off it, even if VY bombed out of the NFL. Prove me wrong, guys.
Bush can play 2 positions on our offense. I believe that keeping a defense guessing is how offenses become successful. If he is in at RB, Davis is resting (good). If he is at the slot, he compliments Johnson and Mathis (good). Having Bush, Davis, Johnson, Mathis, and Carr are 5 above average running threats at their position. VY gives you 4. I like VY, but he can only do so much. The more he takes over the game using his legs, the more likely he will get injured. If he limits his running only when neccessary (6-7 carries), I'm ok with it. I think Carr is around that average when he's running for his life. I don't compare Bush to VY. I look at how they could improve the overall team.
I can understand your view on this just fine. But you were fairly aggressive in saying the QB position is "overrated" and that my claims that the QB is the most important individual on a football team was from way left field and not worthy of debate, so I wanted to hear where you stand on who the most important single individual for a football team is. This is a very relevant question because the #1 pick is used on a single player, and this draft has great top loaded talent in multiple positions (QB, RB, OT, DL, LB). My position is the Texans need to figure out their best option for a long term stud QB as job #1. My position is VY is soundly the best long term prospect among Carr and ML, and the Texans don't want to lose out on that kind of potential in the most important single position in football. If you think the difference in potential between Carr and VY as a long term elite NFL QB is negligable or in Carr's favor, than IMO taking Bush or trading down makes perfect sense. In fact based on need, since the Texans have a great cheap young return guy and an above average all around tailback, trading down for an OT or a defensive player plus getting a lot more compensation may be even smarter. IMO the litmus test on being sure Bush is better than Davis and Mathis is even higher than one for VY being better than Carr, and right now Davis and Mathis have a better track record at their respective positions than Carr is.
Your argument is weak brother. They were 4 first overall pick QBs that were SB winners - Bradshaw, Plunkett, Elway, Aikman Again, Bradshaw played with Harris (HOF RB) Swan and Stallworth (HOF WRs) was it him or the team he played with? Elway, could not win a SB(0-3) until they got Sharpe, Smith, McCaffery, and the best RB of the late 90's TD, Aikman played with the NFL all time leading rusher, and I would definitely say Smith had a bigger impact than Aikman on their success, and Plunkett played on some stellar Raider teams that were absolutely loaded with talent. I am not arguing for or against VY, I am simply saying that your argument of the QB being the most important player on the field is simply not true. It is true a bad one will kill you - no doubt, but all the great ones had a lot of help - period! I tell you what, I would bet you a $1000.00 that I could give you any QB in the league Manning, Brady whoever you want, and the Pitstburgh Steeler offense - which is an excellent squad with lots of talent. I'll take Chad Johnson, Randy Moss, Steve Smtih, Gates, and LT with Seattles O line and David freakin Carr as my QB and my team will kick yours up and down the field every day of the week. Tell me the QB is the most important position. And to answer your questioin: Do you honestly believe the same level running back is as influentional on team success as they same level QB--other factors being equal (same Oline, defense, etc)? Aboslutely, I will take a Bo Jackson and Roethlisberger, Hasslebeck, or Simms combo over any QB you want and Domanick Davis anyday of the week.
Talking about anyone's brain type without administering a legit personality test like the Myers-Briggs or Berkman is pure guesswork.
