well the writing is on the wall, i guess we're stuck with carr. r. bush really is great though so i guess we see what happens.
I love it. Steve Young gets a pass with Tampa Bay because the rest of the team was horrible. But David Carr leading an even more horrible team to 2-14 is reason to get rid of him. Makes perfect sense to me.
Darn. We are "ending up" with Reggie Bush. Don't you remember the Bush bowl? This is what we wanted all along.
Fair point....I don't hate Carr, I just don't think he is special, or a particularly good leader. Personally, I think Vince Young will be a hall of famer, an all timer, and you just don't pass up on that at the most important position on the field. Reggie could be too, and that is not bad.......but by and large QBs lead their teams not RBs. DD
until we had new information, of course. then some opinions changed. i don't know why it's so hard for folks to understand that opinions might change after new information.
No kidding! I'll be a fan no matter who they draft, that's what a true fan is. They follow their team NO MATTER WHAT.
I could be wrong but I thought the Texans would only take the cap hit of the 8M bonus, not the rest of the contract. Like I said before, giving Carr the extension still leaves the Texan's options wide open not the opposite.
i'll follow the Texans. but my loyalties will be split. it's not like i'll be rooting against the Texans from week to week. it's not like i'll be neutral about them. i'll root for them. but i can't guarantee i won't be rooting harder for VY and his team.
Good! Maybe now this Bush vs Vince debate can calm down now that we know that they aren't picking a QB, I mean, if they had any intentions of grooming Vince under Carr they would have picked up the shorter option, and if they had any intentions of trading Carr they would have reworked the deal. It's done, the pick will either be Bush or trade down, this is the ideal situation for Carr too, you can't screw with a guy like him, he's liable to go AWOL on a matter of simple principle. Now the Texans will see what they really got, was it a case of bad talent makes him a bad QB like with Steve Young, or a case of you're just a very bad QB like Rob Johnson, to me those are the two guys that most resemble Carr.
I think what would happen is normally his bonus would be amortized over the length of his contact, in this case 3 years. However, if the Texans trade him then the bonus is accelrated onto this year's cap meaning the whole $8 million would be dead money on the Texans cap.
I never developed an attachment to the Texans like I did to the Oilers. I rooted for the Texans but if they lost I never felt sick. I haven't followed the NFL much lately but now I am an anti-Texans fan. There is only one team in Texas. The Dallas Cowboys.
I am seeing Carr as starter and Young as the back-up. 610 morning crew was acting like "Well, they can't pick Young now because of the cap". What? I mean, is Bush going to come to Houston at a discount? Either way we are going to take a hit. We will see.
if carr is traded next year, so what? it's an uncapped year, right? just chump change to ol bobby mcnair. frankly, if carr is traded this year, so what. deal him for picks or players. costs us money and cap room in a capped 2006. so what? we're not about to win the title. bottom line: this does nothing but increase the value of Carr on the market. we eat the cap hit. if we can deal him to increase the total talent on this team, do it.
umm. Because you'd be paying 2 quarterbacks big big money. And you'd have to pay a running back eventually. Cap would be shot.
