Maybe you don't get the picture. Those situations were before free agency hit and the salary cap. Free agency changed everything about how to handle contracts in the NFL. Get off the draft Vince thing. It just ain't happening. But then again...it could happen...NOT!
Sorry dude, the Texans are just a poorly run team and they are about to be the next victim of VY's wrath. You saw what happens when Vince plays pissed off...bad things man.
This could be a blessing in disguise. More $ against the cap means less money for Casserole to overpay on avg. free agents.
Agreed about the salary cap, but Young was hardly considered a Journeyman, he starred in the USFL and then struggled with a horrible Tampa Bay team but clearly had the talent. Carr, well, he does commercials with Roger Clemens while leading his team in his 4th year to a sterling record of 2-14, sure sign him up for 3 more years.
Texans For Bush. Awesome news about Sherman. To tell you the truth, I really don't care all that much what the Texans do this offseason with the pick. As long as they use it wisely.
I like Bush, but I'm pretty sure all this Bush/Young hype will be put to rest when they trade the pick away and actually get some help for this squad.
You're right Young was more than a journeyman and Tampa traded him away when they decided to start the Testaverde era in Tampa.
Actually it's the opposite. Without the extension, Carr would be intradeable for us, he would walk right out the door. As I mentioned it in the sticky thread, I knew this would bring on the "I told you so" posts, but the truth is that the extension was coming no matter what and everyone knew it. No team would let Carr walk, signing him to the extensions gives us way more options than not signing him. Good to hear about Sherman though, hopefully he can whip the OL into shape, we're gonna need them no matter who we take.
Staubach-Morton The more I think about it, I think we should keep Carr and let him light up the scoreboard this next year with Kubiak coaching the offense. Then draft Young and sit him on the bench. We will wind up with an improved record but will probably be around 6-10 next year. Then we trade Carr away for more than we can get this year, get better picks and players, and start running this team towards the playoffs in 2007 with VY at the controls.
This may have been mentioned in one of the other VY threads, but it goes with having two highly paid QBs. We all know that VY wants to come home and I disagree that it's for first-pick money. I think that he genuinely wants to come home. Before the draft, if I'm not mistaken, the Texans can negotiate contracts with potential picks. If VY really wants to come home to play, he may really sweeten the deal for the Texans if they take him first. What if Vince made an offer that the Texans couldn't refuse and to come with a ridiculously cheap contract (i.e. half of what reggie wants for 3 years) knowing that he will be set for life with all of his endorsement contracts? Am I mistaken or is this a possibility.
Damn, server went down when I hit reply. I'll just type it up again. It's pretty stupid to diss Carr because of our 2-14 record last season. It was pretty obvious we tanked. If we didn't tank, we wouldn't be having these arguements on who should be the num. 1 pick. Just be glad we have the choice to select who we want out of the entire draft. I dont care who we pick, but if we do select VY, he better be starting. I dont want to see him rot warming benches for 1-2 years.
The handwriting was on the wall when they kept Casserly. It takes deliberate acts of blunder to bring a 5 win first season expansion team to its knees in four years. I can't wait til the draft to see all the 'surprises' for us Texan fans. Where- ever Reggie Bush is working out he needs to add carrying 10 players on his shoulders to his training. Trade the pick.
A couple of things: First, since the Texans exercised the three year option instead of the two year it makes Carr completely untradeable without taking an enourmous cap hit. Second, if they were going to draft VY, they would have probably franchised Carr or at the very least done the two year five million dollar option. At this point I find it very hard to beleive that the Texans wouuld extend carr for three years and virtually guaranting themselves salary cap hell if the take VY. However, I could be wrong.
no way VY would do this, at least not to the extent you're suggesting (half of what bush would get? come on) a veteran superstar in the latter half of their career might do this, but definitely not a rookie coming into the league. it's just too risky...VY's endorsements would not make him 'set for life' if he suffers a career ending injury his first year
I never hated a Houston franchise (not even the Astros - hated their owner but still rooted for the team) but the Texans have done it. May they never play for a championship and be cursed till VY retires.
I agree. there's no way you can keep casserly and then admit that his first pick may have been a mistake.
truer words have rarely been spoken -- especially in these Texans/bush/carr/vy threads. casserly will find a way to ruin this franchise in the long-term before he's ousted.
Crap... It's a done deal...I agree that Carr is virtually un-tradable and thus, we'll end up with Reggie...I would rather go the Young route, or better yet, trade down...
