I agree with you. I actually expect to see James Casey more than Dressen. The Texans played a lot of two tight end sets today and Casey saw of ton of action and caught his first two career passes. OD is very good but now Walter and Anderson should get more looks in the middle of the field. Dressen and Casey are solid receivers. Anthony Hill is a solid blocker and will be active on gamedays now. It's a loss but not a devastating one.

Good for us he didn't get that contract. Bad for him. Real bad.

Owen Daniels was having an even better year than last. Arguably top 2 TE going down like that could be a breaker, but we are just too deep at our receiving corps...Heck the tit-ans and several others would likely throw crazy money for our 4th best receiver if given the chance...

Sucks so bad, but we can move on...

He was having a career year. And was awesome for my FF team.

Well, we'll see how easily/hard someone like OD can be replaced. If the TExans offense doesn't miss a beat, we're fortunate to have saved all that money. Sux for him though.

I got him in a trade that was finalized on Friday. Oh well, I still have Antonio Gates.

It still really sucks for the Texans.

No doubt, but this is why you sometimes settle for less. This is brutal for him and for the Texans. I wonder how close they were.

It always sucks majorly to have a pro-bowl caliber player go down. But I guess the silver lining is that our TE position's deep, and our system should lessen the impact.

Perfect example of why teams never give out big contracts if they don't have to, and players asking for guaranteed money so much any time they can.

I am now pretty sure that Texas founding father Sam Houston got into brawl with George Washington in heaven, pissed off God and now divine punishment is being felt by all Houston and Washington named sports teams through random injuries.

Its a shame and I think this will hurt production a bit but it shouldn't kill us. I doubt Casey, Dressen or Hill will put up anything close to OD's numbers but they won't be slugs either.

I just hope Rick Smith and the Texans don't hold this against OD in the contract negotiations, I still maintain that OD and DeMeco deserve top 5 money in their positions.

I like OD as a person, but you're just being irresponsible as an organization if you hand a guy top 5 money after major knee surgery and you haven't even seen him play a game. There's always a very realistic chance with injuries like these that the player won't come back the same. It's a big deal. As I said in the other thread, I think you'll see another high RFA tender/one-year deal, in which he'll have to prove himself all over again. Sucks for him, but those are the breaks.

I really am just not that worried about this injury. No doubt Daniels is one of our best offensive players and Shaub has used him to move the chains but Walter can step in and play that role. We have plenty of weapons. Just not worried. TE is typically a low impact position and we have the tools to work around it. Am I crazy?

OD was leading the team in receptions, 2nd in receiving yards, and also had the most TDs. He did a lot more than just move the chains. I'm confident that a combo of Dressen/Casey may be able to fill in adequately but we're losing a probowl TE who is up there with the likes of Dallas Clark, Jason Witten, Antonio Gates, etc...
