The Asik method is the way to go if the goal is to have average defense. If the goal is to have good defense, you have to do it the Howard way.

I thought Omer is the one who plays up to the arc while Dwight stays back.

This is more apparent on PnR's defense. Omer always hedges when picks are within the arc. Dwight ices PnR's (no hedge and stays back against penetrations). Against quick PG's, ice failed on numerous occasions; they still got their easy layups and wrecked havoc into interior defense.

Omer plays close to his man while Dwight plays off a distance due to his lack of lateral quickness. Dwight also has a bad habit of not putting his hands up when opposition bigs are taking mid jumpers.

Because Omer has the lateral quickness that is rare in bigmen, he is a better defender on man-to-man, contesting shots by playing close and not easily faked out as Dwight. Dwight has that fear factor that deters penetrations. BUT we will dearly miss Omer because of his defense on PnR which is Rockets biggest achilles.

The best chance for Rockets winning a championship this year was to make twin tower work. Omer is one of the best 1-on-1 bigman defenders in this league. If we had Omer, I can say with certainty that Aldrdge would not be a major factor last night.

Team defense. Not all about Dwight or Omer.

I really don't think we'll be a consistently good defensive team with this current group of guys. Maybe it's the coaches, I don't know. But it seems like they are weak minded and don't do all the little things. Combine that with a recurring lack of effort and you get us.

Thing is, physically, we have guys that should be able to defend well.

It was Parsons that was missing most of the rotations last night.
