I want O.D., but it's too early for him to want top 4 money for his position...He is good, but not so dominant good that you question if you can't live without him if his demands are unreasonable. My definition of reasonable would be a short multi year deal commensurate within the 5th best compensated at his position. That would be fair to both sides...I understand O.D. wants to cash in on the pro bowl, but that was one good year, let's have him do it again, and if he replicates the year in production then his value should be a top 3 compensation... In my view, if I was O.D. , I would show up, shut up, and if he is confident, then he could possibly get a better multi-year package by playing as well in 2009...
and if he blows out his knee he gets nothing. I don't blame him, it will get worked out. I don't think he is worth too huge of a contract
yeah... three years ago. you can't easily replace his experience and the likely countless hours he's worked with schaub and kubiak in this offense. sorry, man - it's an enormous stretch. if that's the company daniels is keeping - the 6 best TEs in football and two young, top picks with loads of potential.... how can you denegrate his value? yeah, i did. thinking about it further... he probably deserves to be among the 5-7 highest paid TEs in football - somewhere in that range, and whatever that is.
My whole point has been that there are reports that OD wants to be one of the top 2-3 highest paid TEs in football. I dont think he is there. I do think that he was a big part of our offense last season, but I also do not want to overpay for his services. With the hard salary cap of football, overpaying for a player will only handicap your future. All this nonsense of signing a tender and then not showing up is silly. I have no respect for it. That kind of attitude doesnt sit well with me...he has a long way to go to show that he is a top 3 TE in the NFL. I mean, the guy makes it into the probowl because of an injury. Barely top 3 in the AFC. This isnt to take away from his accomplishments, he has done plenty for the team. But, when players start holding out because they think they are the best at their position...there are only 2 players on the roster that have that right.
Then the Texans should be wiling to do a multi year deal, but no more lucrative than the 4th best compensated at his position. O.D. should accept that good money. That would be fair. The prob. is I'm not sure O.D. would accept this.
