Rockets Plan to Visit Arlington National Cemetary

Tomorrow, the Rockets plan on visiting Arlington National Cemetery as part of the NBA's Hoops For Troops program. It's moments like THESE that truly make me proud to be an #RFFL and to root for this team even MORE!!!

The Rockets will spend Saturday in Washington, D.C. with several NBA Hoops for Troops events.

In events considered “team building” as well as service oriented, the Rockets will visit Section 60 at Arlington National Cemetery, which includes the tombs of soldiers recently killed. They will make the tour with the widow of a soldier who was killed in Iraq. They will also visit the Tomb of the Unknown Solider and the Pentagon.

Coach Kevin McHale, guard James Harden and center Dwight Harden will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The rest of the traveling party will be standing behind them, as is protocol at such events. McHale worked with the NBA directly to set up much of the trip.

Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of joint chiefs of staff, had invited NBA teams when in Washington to visit the Pentagon. The Rockets visit will include a tour of the 9/11 Memorial and a section of the Pentagon dedicated to General George S. Patton. McHale’s father Paul fought under Patton in Africa during World War II.

Hoops for Troops in an NBA initiative in conjunction with the Department of Defense, USO and other military and veteran organizations.

The Rockets are scheduled to play the Washington Wizards on Sunday at Verizon Center.
