Parsons is irreplaceable now at $500k/year. At 6-10mil/year, not so much.

I love Parsons. We all love Parsons. But we all know, deep down, that Parsons is exactly the kind of guy you can replace. And probably for less money, since the guys you can't replace (Harden and Howard) create opportunities for that third guy and make him look more responsible for his success than he really is.

Gotta laugh at all the suggestions that Parsons will get $6m/yr. Newsflash, it's not about what Parsons is worth, it's about what 1 (one) other GM is willing to pay him. Tyreke freakin' Evans is making over $10m a year.

What I'm saying is that the Rockets might be willing to overpay Parsons because he's always been a rocket and contributed tremendously to the team. I would have no issues overpaying by a little and rewarding him for getting screwed at $500k a year. But of course there are always limits. If both shumpert and parsons came onto the market at the same time, I would jump at shumpert. He's not the offensive talent that parsons is, but shumpert is a true man to man lock down defender. Oh and shumpert can alley oops better than parsons.

Parsons is not worth more than $4-5 mil a year. There are plenty of guys in the league who can do what he does. His defense has fallen off significantly since his rookie season. His ballhandling skills haven't developed. His 3-point shot is AWOL this year. And he hasn't really developed much of an inside game. Aside from that Dreamshake turnaround jumper he pulled out of his behind in the 4th quarter of that Laker game, there's no sign that he's worked on any post-up moves.

He seems like a good teammate in the locker room and off the floor, but when you look at what he does on the court, does he actually have any area of his game that you would call a strength? It seems like he does a lot of different things ok, but nothing really stands out.

+1 unless you are someone like reggie miller (shooter) josh smith (rebounding, defensive intimidation), a wing player who cannot create his own shot is severely limited in terms of how high his ceiling is.

Good lawd.... The guy misses a few shots at the beginning of the season (even though he's still averaging 17 ppg) and now he's not even worth the mid-level.... lol. What in the world does it take to make the peanut gallery here happy with any player???

Whats next, suggesting the Rockets should trade Dwight Howard???..

    (Ohh S$%#....

Yeah, Parsons isn't worth more than $4,000,000 - $5,000,000 per season.

Just try offering him that and see how quickly we lose him for nothing. Not to mention how far we fall in Dwight Howard's estimation of us.

That's why I think Morey may eventually trade him... And Howard will be just fine as long as Harden is happy and Harden can probably care less if Parsons stays or goes... And Howard probably doesn't care either. It's not like Howard was begging to come play here when Harden wasn't here and Parsons was...

If he doesn't improve his defense and that 3-point shooting(26% right now), what makes him worth more than that? The 17 PPG is an overrated stat. That has just as much to do with the Rockets fast-paced offense as it does Parsons.

Parsons' value comes from his willingness to run but he wouldn't be running as hard if he got a long term deal. That kind of effort is already taking a toll on his body--back, neck, and heel.

So then what he's done over the past 2 seasons means nothing then... The market valuation for NBA players in free agency is based off of the first 10 games of their 3rd NBA season....

But yeah....forget that.... lets just trade him now because we dont want to pay him the mid-level potentially in 2 years.... makes a ton of sense.

Bold prediction: Morey will decline Parsons's option in 2014 and offer him a maximum salary contract for 1 year. Morey will then sign Parsons in 2015 to a minimum wage contract for 1 year and using the remaining cap room to chase a max player like Love. In 2016, Morey will then sign Parsons to a long term contract reflecting his value (maybe $11M/year?).

11 games, not 10. It's still early, and he has been dealing with injuries. But eventually, that sub-30% 3-point shooting is no longer a slump and becomes a deficiency in his game. Of course he still has time to turn it around(Jeremy Lin comes to mind), but the constant pump-faking indicates it's gotten to him mentally. And the dropoff in his D can't be overlooked. That's something that was good in his rookie season, but a weakness ever since.

    Nice Carl... lol.

Actually though wouldn't the Rockets have Parson's cap hold on the books anyways for 2015/16 and wouldn't that keep them from having the ability to sign a max free agent anywayyyy...... oh crap never mind.... back from fantasy land.
