So codell, what is the point? He's a basketball player, he gets paid to play ball. Whatever goes on in his life is his problem. I love all these arguments about kids not being mature and not understanding. Well first of all, it's stupid that there are people out there that thinks 16 year olds can't tell shooting somebody is wrong. Second of all, even suppose we assume that they truely are THAT immature, how the hell do you straighten them out without being hard on their asses?

EG gets paid playing ball, that's the bottomline. If he can't do that he shouldn't get paid. How long are we gonna give him for this emotional distress crap? It's been like 2 years and counting.

If you've read my previous posts, I am one of those guys that CAN claim I never liked the 3 1st rounders for Eddie trade. Dispite all the progress other players (including those projected much lower than him) have made, I was willing to give him another chance, despite my previous position. Well right now he has shown me nothing other than that I WAS right all along.

Having said that, some homer's gonna come on here and flame me and say EG's only 20. Well he was 18 and 19 the last two years and we gave him those excuses. Or they'll say we would not have drafted RJ, Tinsley, Parker, Arenas, Radmanovic, Randolph or even Gerald Wallace. In that case I would be extremely depressed about this team's scouting.

Then some others will say the likes of those mentioned above would have developed on the Rox without Kidd, JO'Neal, TD whoever. Well right now EG has made, read it, 0, zero, zilch, nada, none, nil development. To me, 3 non developing 1st rounders is better than 1 non developing 1st rounder with a weed problem any day, even if we are to assume they never do develop.

Coming up in about a half hour. Wragge on Channel 2 said that EG and JVG have met and talked. JVG and CD will announce what they are going to do sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I'm sure Berman will have more info...he always does.

Thanks, ima. "What they are going to do?" That sounds ominous.

I agree with MFW...stupid kids these days.

What happens to him? Hopefully just fined or something...but not waived.

Griffin expects 2-game suspension from Rockets

Rockets forward Eddie Griffin expects to receive a two-game suspension without pay today for skipping the team's preseason game in Sacramento.

Griffin said he learned of the punishment after a short meeting with coach Jeff Van Gundy on Wednesday.

Griffin said he stayed in Houston rather than fly with the team to Sacramento on Monday or join the team Tuesday to attend to "personal, family problems."

    A two-game suspension would cost Griffin $51,394.

"I just had some problems I had to take care of," Griffin said.

"Things are fine now. I'm going to be back with the team. I'm going to be out for two games, but I understand, because that's the best for the team because I didn't show up.

"I had some stuff to take care of. I'm fine with it. I should have let him (Van Gundy) know. I didn't let him know. That's what you've got to do."

Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said he could not comment until he and Van Gundy meet to discuss Griffin today.

After missing Monday's flight, Griffin did not speak directly with Rockets officials until Wednesday. Griffin would not elaborate about the problems. He will still be permitted to practice, beginning with this morning's shootaround.

Griffin similarly missed a game last season for personal reasons but did contact the team that evening and was not suspended. He was charged with mar1juana possession last April. A hearing is scheduled for later this month.

The Rockets have until the end of the month to exercise their option to extend Griffin's contract to a fourth season.

"I still want to be here, I definitely want to be here," Griffin said.

The Rockets, however, might be bringing in insurance. Anthony "Pig" Miller, a 6-9, 278-pound power forward, worked out for Rockets coaches on Tuesday, markedly slimmer than in his previous stint with the Rockets and declaring his right hamstring injury to be healed.

"I'm feeling pretty good," said Miller, who the Rockets contacted on Tuesday. "I've been working out every day, playing two-on-two and three-on-three full court with Devin (Grey), Mark Bryant and Chris Morris. I always liked Houston. I have a good relationship with the players and the people in Houston."

After this little incident, unfortunately, his trade value is going to be beans. We might as well keep the head case. And I thought EG was going to be our PF of the future.....ha!

I still remember that game a while back where he had the ball on a fast break and went behind the back to fake someone out.

Not necessarily. Other GMs may still be drawn to Eddie's potential and think "we can turn him around," "change of scenery will fix things," etc. But yeah, Eddie's value won't be as high as it could be.

You never know; much of Eddie's problems may be fixable. It's still very possible for him to get it together. I mean, look at Kelvin Cato. Did we EVER think he would really transform into the asset he is now? Sometimes it just takes time, whether or not that's time we can afford to wait.

I wouldn't mind trading Eddie, but not just for the sake of getting rid of him. I'd want a good backup PF-type or better in exchange.

ha funny. i saw pig miller at wings n more or whatever it's called on westheimer and like kirkwood last night. he came in at about 8:30, with this pretty hot girl and i guess a friend and sat and watched the whole rockets game. i left about 11:30-12 and he was still there.

he looked pretty good, definitely seemed more cut, used to be fat.

Well, this turned out as good as could be expected. I like the part where EG repeated twice that he wanted to be here. Poor CD - he and RudyT pick a high-school age player in the draft just one time - perhaps partially because they are wary of this sort of thing - and it backfires the one time they try. But things may still turn out OK at least.

Oh, forgot to mention earlier that personal problems (drugs?) are always going to be a probable cause, that's obvious. Admittedly, my take is probably more interesting than realistic, but I still think it's possible JVG sensed trouble (poor practice or behavior that could be attibuted to a personal/drug problem/whatever), gave him grief to try to correct it, talked up Cato while trying him at the four, maybe hoping it would scare up some sense. EG looks at his FG%, becomes further depressed, gets into trouble again. Since it didn't work, coach now mends fences like with Stevie. Anyway, let's just hope this is the last episode of whatever it is that we'll never really know.

So this is JVG's fault? How about this instead.... A young, lazy, multi-millionaire pot-head made another mistake detrimental to the team.
