This is good, JVG will make Boki and Gaines really fight it out for minutes. Ward will get into some kind of shape as well.

I think that we can pretty much survive losing anyone but Yao and T-Mac. In the past, losing Cato has been really painful. This year, I think we're deep enough to deal with injuries to role players.

I hope Gaines and Boki take this opportunity.

here're two players we can use temprary:

    Mitchell Butler

    Bryon Russell

or maybe someone else I forgot. just don't tell me Boki's gonna take up all the minutes T-Mac & JJ left.

Maybe you did not take enough time to read through this thread or at least think of all the possible scenarios.

Sura's injury is unfortunate. I think he was going to be counted on to be a solid 6th/7th man on this team to bring energy off the bench. Now that he will be out all of preseason and at least the first month of the regular season he wont be able to gel with the team. I think this is ESPECIALLY important this season. We have SO many new players this year that they ALL need time playing with one another to get some chemistry going. Hopefully when Sura comes back he can respond a heck of a lot better than Pike did last year.

The brightside to this Sura injury though is Nachbar. Before I think we were going to see T-Mac, JJ, and Sura as the 3 guy rotation at the 2/3 spots. Now that Sura is down I think Nachbar joins this group. With Tmac resting JJ will slide to the 2 and Nachbar at the 3 and with JJ resting Nachbar will play the 3. This is a GOLDEN opportunity for Nachbar here. He should get PLENTY of minutes in preseason and solid minutes during the start of the regular season. If he doesnt grasp this opportunity to show something to JVG then he will be burried on the bench FOR GOOD. As for Gaines, I see him as still on the outside of those 3 for getting minutes. But surely he will get more chances with Sura out.

Someone mentioned picking up Lucious Harris. I wouldn't be opposed to it. I personally think he is a smart, solid player. But what do you do with him when Sura gets back? Nevertheless, I think Harris would be a smart pick up.

I hope Nachbar takes advantage of this opportunity. If he doesnt, he has no one to blame but himself.

Depth. That and/or hope his play buries Ward's minutes after Sura resurfaces and surges.

(I would also like a bit more depth at the 5.)

I think this would also open the opportunity for Gaines...I hope we could sign another cheap player just to make an insurance

ok, off topic, but i have a question. is it standard journalistic form to begin with the present and work backwards in time in your article?

the story starts with the back surgery and ends with a quote from sura saying he doesn't know what's going on with his back.

I know all back issues are different. So here is my account. I have a buddy who is an x ranger in the army, the guy is tough as nails and in great shape. He gets a ruptured disk and he can't even sit down to eat dinner because of the pain, says his leg feels like its on fire. He gets the squished out part of the disk cut off (squishyoutcutoffomy) and in a month is back to working out and putting new tile in his house.

That the problem with back issues they might be nothing but they might put you in a wheel chair. The only good thing I see is that the faster you deal with a problem like this, the less likely you are to have nerve damage, and the more likely you are to fully recover.

Oh yeah, this guy is a nice roll player but if his injury will ruin our season then we were screwed anyway.

Or maybe there is no reason to believe Boki is going to start logging heavy minutes under JVG just because some people seem to be in love with the guy.

    * sigh *

And btw, I read the entire thread, and this Nachbar thing had really gotten out of control. For crying out loud, some people are actually GLAD that Sure went down because it could mean more minutes for Boki!

    Ridiculous!

I heard Keith Jones saying that Sura would be out for a while, but since he had the surgery now, they expect that there will not be any lingering problems after his recovery.

having the surgery (with today's medical technology) is much better than just tring to rest an injury -

Bokie is not a SG, not sure why everyone thinks he can effectively play that postion, he is a SF period.

Boki comes in at the 3 so JJ (a natural 2 guard) can go over to the 2. I'm not sold on whether Boki is the answer, but if he can give us quality minutes, then this would be the scenario.

You genius, Boki will get all his minutes at the 3, it's just that JJ will get more minutes at the 2 backing up T-Mac.

There's no way we're SIZGNING someone to play minutes that will disappear a few games into the regular season.

Without Sura we will be OK short term as long as:

    1) Ward can give us 20 quality minutes at the 1 (I know Lue can play solid for 28).

    2) JJ and Tmac stay healthy. Because both players can seemlessly go between the 2 and 3, we only need about 20 minutes out of back-up SFs or SGs. It mostly depends on Boki's play, if he tanks than Padget can get some of those SF minutes, but either way it is a major drop off from JJ unless Boki plays really well.

This injury is worse long term for 2 reasons.

    1) I really liked the idea of cutting down some of Tmac and (especially) JJ minutes to keep them fresher. Now this will only happen if Boki plays really well. Padget is servicable for some minutes, but by no means can he lesson our starters minutes because of the drastic talent drop off.

    2) How will Sura be re-intergrated? He already was a player without great discipline and with inconsistency despite being a good energy. I really wanted him to find a role and stick to it. I am more afraid of growing pains as he gets re-acclimated than I would have been with a player like Ward or MoT who is more conscious of his strengths and limitations.

Every team will have some injuries. I prefer having them now rather than later.
