His loss will be felt at both spots. JJ and T-Mac to a lesser extent will be under more pressure. Boki and Gaines need to step up but neither of them are ready to contribute much.
If Sura is out like Pike or Griffin we will be in serious trouble. Lue and Ward lack size at the point with the latter being slow as well.
I think if we pick up L. Harris our backup SG spot will get better and T-Mac might be able to get more minutes at the 3 spot in addition to his primary role as a 2.
JJ can slide to the PG spot on occasions to bring the ball up along with Lue and Ward.

Lucious Harris is the guy we should go after.

Sorry Boki lovers, but the guy certainly can't play the 2.

    kinda off topic....but.....

just out of curiousity...those of you with back problems....how old were you when you started having problems? having a herniated disc sounds pretty painful and scary.

What's with the fascination with big point guards? Rocket point guards need to be able to play smart defense and not let the guys like Bibby, Nash, Parker, and JWill get by them and to the basket. Steve Francis was a big point guard, but Parker ran by him all the time. Bibby and Bobby Jackson scored 56 points in the pre-Superbowl game. Steve Nash regularly had big games against the Rockets. Big point guards don't mean squat in terms of defense in the Western Conference. Only guy who Ward and Lue might have problems with is Baron Davis. That's one point guard on a team that is going to be very bad next year. It's Parker and Bibby who the Rockets have to worry about.

Lue arguably might be the most important perimeter defender against the top teams in the West since he is the only guy who can keep up with the quick guys. Having Bibby and Bobby Jackson put up 50 points against the Rockets is a recipe for a Rockets loss. The two duties of the Rocket point guard is to

    1. shoot the 3 well (35% and above)
    2. contain the opposing point guard

As much as Sura can D up against bigger point guards, it's suspect whether he can keep up with the likes of Parker. His 3 point shot is worse than Steve's. Every single opposing point guard would roam around Yao's legs trying to steal the ball rather than worry about Sura out beyond the 3 point line.

In 2005, we'll trade Bob Sura, Charlie Ward and our #1 for Tariq Abdul Wahad.

In 2006, we'll trade Tariq Abdul Wahad and a future #1 for Eric Piatkowski and sign Adrian Griffin to a 5 year $15 million contract.

In 2007, we'll trade Eric Piatkowski, Adrian Griffin and a future #1 for Moochie Norris - thus finally solving our PG problems - *whew*.

With medical science today, the have come a long way.
They are doing all kind of research on chronic back problems.
The surgeries are much more successful then 10-20 years ago.

But for people with chronic back issues, it can still be a nightmare.

MemphisX, I recommend you seriously consider check in to one of those psych clinics if there's one available in Elvis country. You must be hallucinating badly if you think Grizzlies can finish ahead of Rockets next season.

In my case, a guy in a big Dodge/GM pickup ran a red light, because he was in a hurry to get to Target, and actually sped up... thinking he could make it. He freely admitted doing it for those reasons, as he apologized, staring at the wreckage. It took the front end of my Honda van off in front of the front wheels. Almost $10,000 in damage, but not enough to total. My one and a half year old daughter was in the 3rd row of seats, thank god, strapped in like an astronaut. She had red marks on her skin from the straps, but was pretty much unhurt. That was not the case for me. If I hadn't been in shock, I would have had to have been dragged away from the guy, to keep me from killing him.

He got a ticket for running a red light, and that was it. I ended up with next to nothing during mediation, because I didn't want to mess around with a trial. I just hurt too much, if that makes any sense, and didn't think I could possibly end up with what I did. I was in my mid-40's. Sorry for the long response, but you asked.

I guess we'll have to change from ClutchCity to InvalidCity. :D

I didn't know so many of us had problems with L5. Four years ago on Fathers Day weekend, I sat up in bed & broke off a piece of bone in that area. It fell down the tube with the nerves. The family took the guys out to eat on Sunday. I'd be fine , then the pain would hit. It was a rough 4 or 5 days, then the pain stopped. I haven't had pain since, but the outside of my right foot is numb. The neurosurgen said as long as I could live with it, he wasn't going in after that piece of bone.

As I read some of your experiences, it brought back memories. Boy I hope Sura gets off easy for his sake. I'll worry about the effect on the Rockets later.

    LOL! :D
Hey, listen to your surgeon. I often think I would have been better off without the surgery.

Sura, you better get well soon!
(crosses all appendages... uh, decides wife might like to help with one... bye!)

I would hope that he heals "completely" when he starts to play. I'm not too worried about what the preseason brings but I hope Boki gets his playing time now, improves and shows us he's definitely worth keeping. i'd rather the doctors fix our whole team up now and get it all over with early early before the season starts then giving us crappy news after the trade deadline or right when our momentum is starting to build with a winning streak. I'm hoping this is our year to reign and strike terror in the hearts of the rest of the league. Let's hope all these problems like Sura are having are taken cared of right now rather than later so when playoffs come we'll be rooting for them at the nba finals.

After my clyde meeting. (see drexler thread). He said that he surely hopes that reece gaines gets some minutes. He said that he's followed Reece for quite some time and given the minutes he will perform. In clyde's words..."reece has mad game" He indicated though only ? is whether or not JVG will want to play him.
