i disagree completely. a "no comment" means his future is in limbo only if you've already decided his fate, which the chronicle clearly has.

from my perspective, it reads like mcnair (and the organization) is shelving the question so as not to sway season ticket holders who are about to face renewal issues. nothing more. notice, he later lists the texans' offseason targets... and fails to mention QB... so the current QBs future is in "limbo," but it's not a priority this winter, huh? that makes sense.

tinman, when he talks about paying a player what he's worth, he's factoring in dead money, ie the money they'd have to eat if they cut or traded carr. carr could count as much as $4M on this year's cap. how does paying jake plummer $10-12M next year sound?

i will be SHOCKED if carr is elsewhere next year. imo, it only happens if the team has quit on him and makes that known.

So... is it safe to say that McNair wants to leave Carr as the starter for the 2007 season? I mean, Capers DID stay another season...

    Carr is staying.

You probably have a better read on the situation than I do here in Austin but if he is still starting next year I will be amazed. Deja vu all over again I guess.

I wouldnt doubt that. If Grossman did it then Carr could do it with that Bears team as well. The NFC is weak and the NFC North might be the worst division in football. Could we get Hester and some hotdogs instead?? :D

    Doesn't a double negative equal a positive?

As an organization extending Carr demonstrated very poor judgment as far as building a Super Bowl contender. Returning Carr next season will confirm what the rest of the nation knew once we announced Mario Williams worthy of the #1 over all pick of the 2006 draft- we have a poor organization.

I stated long before last season that if they extended Carr it would set the franchise back at that position and that Carr would play himself out of a job.
I posted that it was obvious that Carr would not lead the team to the playoffs much less a Super Bowl. It was so obvious Casserly and Capers could have seen it. I do not understand how in the world Kubiak could not see it unless McNair was strongly supporting Carr. If that is the case, well he is reaping what he sowed.

So your ready to label Mario a bust after a season where he played hurt - WOW! If you don't think plantar fasicitis is serious then I suggest giving it a try. No owner of any intelligence would come out a publicly hammer a player they might be trying to trade - it would be stupid. If you want to trade him and get ANYTHING you can't trash him.

Carr can get you something on the market, there are a few teams in the NFL that have worse QBs - see Chicago, Oakland, hell even Miami. Carr at best will bring a third rounder - probably a 4th or 5th, but if the organization comes out and washes their hands of him then will get s**t.

I was commenting on only McNair's comments, not the title of the article. I agree the Chronic is jumping to conclusions, but this is the first time I can remember McNair not being so quick to defend Carr. And I still think that is pretty significant.

It would also make sense if you're trying not to put his trade value in the toilet by letting this all play out in the media. Obviously if they're planning on trying to trade Carr (not saying I know either way), they don't want to slam him in the media.

But I thought for QB's it is all about winning? From last season, Rex won more than anyone except Manning (even more than wonder boy VY).

big difference between saying someone is a bust and saying someone isn't worthy of the #1 pick overall.
