Texans: Carr drawing some interest from other teams

For the first time, the Texans admitted they have received calls from teams that are interested in acquiring quarterback David Carr.

Speculation about a possible Carr trade has been rampant since the second half of the season, but until this week, no teams had inquired about Carr’s availability.

“First, let me say that David is our starting quarterback,” general manager Rick Smith said today. “I’ve fielded some calls about some of our players, including a couple of inquiries asking whether David might be available.

“My goal is to improve our team. If doing that involves a player on our team, a player on another team, a free agent or a draft choice, then I’ll absolutely entertain it.”

Smith refused to disclose which teams have inquired about Carr. It’s no secret that a few teams have a desperate need, and some would like to bolster the position. Minnesota and Oakland are two of the most prominent.

Carr, who helped the Texans improve from 2-14 to 6-10 in Gary Kubiak’s first season as coach, has two years left on his contract.

If Carr is traded, the Texans would likely look for a veteran to compete with Sage Rosenfels. Jake Plummer, who had the best three seasons of his career when Kubiak was his offensive coordinator at Denver, is expected to be available at some point. The Broncos are hoping to get a draft choice for Plummer rather than just releasing him.

Smith and Kubiak would like to acquire extra draft choices. They also plan to be active in free agency, which begins the first week of March.

Rule #1 on Internet BBS's: take nothing seriously, especially oneself
    Rule #2: No whining. Ever.

I've been known to break Rule #1 more than once. The problem with text on a page as opposed to verbal communication is that tone is often misinterpreted. That's been the case in this discussion more than once, and I believe it is due to the nature of the frustration on each side of the argument. I'm sorry your tone was misinterpreted, but so was mine. Water under the bridge.

    As well you should.

thats interesting, I don't think this would be leaked by the org if they weren't trying to drive up/spark interest. I think (hope) they realize its time to make and change and move on, for better or worse for all parties.

Maybe McNair will move him as a favor, he got pounded on the field (and admirably never complained) maybe they will spare him getting pounded by the fans.
