If we don't get a superstar in a trade in the next seven weeks, we are going to have to draft or develop one, because all of our expiring contracts will be gone. We won't have any large expiring contracts next year, unless we give Yao or Battier large one-year extensions this summer. Or unless we trade for a player in the next seven weeks with a large contract that expires next year (like a Camby, etc.).
I've been saying this since last season: February 24, 2011 is a pivotal day in Rockets history. That said, there is a possibility (depending on where the salary cap figure comes in under the new CBA) that the Rockets could be positioned to have a substantial amount of cap room next summer, especially if they decide not to keep (or match an offer sheet for) Aaron Brooks. That cap room doesn't necessarily have to be used to sign a free agent outright. It can be just as (if not more) helpful in facilitating a trade. Remember, all of the stars this past summer (Lebron, Bosh, Amare, Boozer) went to their new teams via sign-and-trade deals. JBC, agreed on your ideas for "extending" the Rockets' trade avenues. However, I just don't see this franchise being willing to lose games in order to get a better draft position.
The deadline is just around the corner. And teams will be looking to make moves. I don't see the Rockets doing much as we all expect. I think they'll move Yao Ming to a team like Sacramento. A team that is looking for more cap space for a player like Whiteside +filler+ future pick. Also i can see them willing to take on Brand only as long as Iggy+pick is in the deal. I know last season Rockets held interest in Iggy. And this past trade deadline they was after Cousins and was willing to take on Brand to do so. Then i think they'll eventually move Jeffries. I see if they are going young, it's quite possible even Scola would be moved in the right deal that landed them picks or expirings. I think they'll try to go after Love since he seems to want out of Minnesota in the not to distant future.
yeah..I also want Love to wear Rocket red...then we can ship put Scola for a Center or versatile SF that we need.
another way of looking at it is that next year, our young players will all have another year's experience, and worth more in trade for that reason. I think a year will make a big difference for Jordan Hill, for example. Chase, PPatt, AB, Ish too.
