This is the second time i've heard he has an issue with his ankle this year, but when did this happen? I thought he tweaked his hamstring during preseason and that's what was bothering him?

I'm wondering if playing last season kept him from recovering 100% from his ankle injury, then this summer he rehabbed it back in time for training camp, then was again setback once more, but this time by a hamstring, which is what now has completely healed??

The whole part about him just playing the rest of the way like that is just a typical battier answer, i don't think he meant he would never recover. I want to wait and see how he does from now on too, but based on the scenario i gave i could see how he could get it back all of a sudden..

where did you hear that? I guess i hadn't thought about the possibility that Battier trained differently this year to prepare for the "run and gun" rockets. Maybe he picked up an inch or two on his vertical from that training..

If the report is correct and he ran "with logs" as in carrying them, then that would strengthen his core and lower body signficantly and might improve his vertical.

Actually I think Wallace would fit our system. He can run the floor and is a good defender, I guess your point of him not fitting is his 3pt shot and ability to spread the floor. When its all said and done I guess Battier is a better player for the Rockets right now, kind of like are unsung hero and leader, the guy that keeps are team together, a veteran to keep all the antics away from the locker room, a teacher for Chase and all the youngens. So when its all said and done I guess Shane is a better guy to have on the team.

It depends on the position, does it not?

Strange how the advanced stats are used against Battier, when its taken his 4th season as a Rocket to finally get to doing that. Does he fit with this current team? Doubtful. To me its still undeniable that he's held his end on the bottom line advanced stat measure 3 of 4 years. And i'm a critic of his p*ssy standstill offense as much as anyone.

Rudy Gay was also better than Battier in terms of +/- in his rookie year, so that would be 2 of the last 4 years he's been better than Battier, although obviously this season is still young.

As far as Battier's poor +/- this season goes, is it just a case of the sample size being too small? Possibly. But I would think it's also possible that Battier has simply regressed, and he isn't quite the same player he was 2-3 years ago.

If he sits and chase plays 30 mins a night, he will be chuck hayes'd. Its probably good he keeps playing and he probably knows it too. Chase looks natural in the offense and his defense has been ok too. his offense far outweighs battier's intangibles and everyone knows it. If you're hurt, sit down vs looking like youre 37.

or his minutes mimic the opposing teams best player.

God I'm sick of people trotting out this line. Do you understand the concept of adjusted plus/minus?

This reminds me of the Lakers series last year, when Artest's +/- was great and Battier's was atrocious. People around here were saying "What are you talking about? Battier played way better than Artest! The only reason his +/- was bad was because his minutes mimicked Kobe's."

Well, Kobe was on the floor for 242 of Battier's 259 minutes, and 232 of Artest's 267 minutes. Not exactly a massive difference, at least not a tangible one. I guess Battier was intangibly mimicking Kobe's minutes, a la "Angels in the Outfield".

It's up to the coach whether to play or sit him. Battier doesn't get to call the substitutions. Adelman obviously decided it's useful to send him out there for those minutes.

My only grudge is against bad logic and poorly-constructed arguments (no offense). Besides, I thought we were talking it out?
