Not to be a hater but I was never real excited over Badaine. 2nd Round Picks rarely turn out, especially ones from Senegal who don't have much skills.

Hopefully, he will be good and I eat crow, but I don't see how a guy who doesn't play all that much for his Euro team can come in and take a roster spot in the NBA. As Kas reported, this guy just doesn't seem all that good. We all knew he was gonna be a 2-3 year project but it seems he is developing a lot slower than we expected.

I love it!! You know the owners continually read this board to recruit new scouts, GM's and Coaches. There is just so much knowledge pouring out of this board. Everyone is so sure they right.

Yeah...Traffic was a mother today. I got here as soon as I could.

What's funny here is that CD said that the really impressive thing about Badiane was that he gained weight. I laughed hard at that comment.
The really impressive thing wasn't his court vision, rebounding, passing ability, tenacity, post moves, defensive prowess.. Nope, none of that stuff. The really impressive thing was Badiane gained weight as a result of sitting on the end of a bench in Germany. Maybe he will sign Rosanne Barr as our new power forward.

I guess you didn't read the part of the article that says, " ... the team has to sign Badiane in order for him to be at training camp. That means they will no longer have the option of sending him overseas.

If he is not ready, the Rockets risk hurting Badiane's confidence and setting back his progress. Or if they cut him, he becomes a free agent."

That article was written to soften the blow for the Malick masack cult members when their boy is back in Germany playing one on one with Seargent Schultz.

This isn't training camp. They probably won't invite him to camp. They will just send him back over to Germany and keep his rights so that hope lives on......

i think he will benefit to be w/ the team if this is Deke's last....u know Deke likes teaching Yao...so Badiane I think would benefit from it too.... if he can have the rebounding/block shoting prowless of Deke and learn his hook shot....he'd be a perfect fit....

The article point blank said that if they don't sign him for training camp then they can't send him back overseas and will outright lose him to free agency.

And they're still debating whether or not to keep him. Doesn't that tell you something?...

How in the WORLD are some of you still holding onto the pipe dream that this guy will ever contribute to this team, to the point of advocating waiving expiring contracts to give him a spot?

He was a low 2nd round pick. He's supposed to suck. Let it go.

"But the team has to sign Badiane in order for him to be at training camp. That means they will no longer have the option of sending him overseas."

If they sign him, they won't have the option to send him back to Germany. To be at training camp, he has to be signed.

Actually I think you read it all wrong.

The project was slated for 2-3 years.

This is now the second year.

To Malick's credit they are contemplating forgoing the 3rd and keeping him here instead of sending him back to Frankfurt. This is huge because he was expected to stay there at least one more year. They have now seen that the man is determined and disciplined enough to follow the private tarining program set out for by Faizone [sp] to help him at some more beef.

They can easilly send him back now follow SL to Germany for one more year or keep him. The draw back of keeping him is that once he signs he will not get the option of going back to Deutsche Land according to the report.

Big men take longer time. That is a fact and Mr Dawson who is more experience on matters like these know this very well.

We are still on schedule - this is not the final (3rd) year of his "projection". Injuries set his development back and many believe last December's injury will sideline him until this summer but to his credit he came back 3-4 months ahead of time. Everything this man has done in his life is beat the odds and I will to bet that he will do it again this time.

Now if he is not ready by the summer of next year, then we can throw our hands up collectively but for now show some prudence ans savvy.

Malick in my estimation will play at least 10 years in this league and do so admirably with steady contribution and impact. Many people have been written off before but the once like Bo, Big Ben, Sammy, Bowens, Elie, etc. made it against all odds because of one thing (that is also present in Malick) - their hearts. They never gave or stopped believing in themselves. In a few years, it will be laughable that some gave up easily on Malick just like Orlando and Washinton is still smarting from their wrong judgement of Ben Wallace.

I'm not a big fan of his. I could never understand the love for Langhi and Nachbar that this board gave. But I really would like to see the man do well, maybe if the Rockets dont sign him so low grade team i.e. Clippers, Bobcats, or basically anyone in the Eastern Conference without Shaq on their team will give him a chance.

There is no hype surrounding this guy. People on this board thought Boki was going to be the third best player on this team. All they want from Bandine is rebounding. Considering he was a stick when he was drafted, that was the reason he was overseas, he physically wasn't ready for the NBA.

If you want hype, go read the Swift threads. I think folks are actually pretty practical about expectations about Malik.

Do we have the option of NBDL-ing Badiane? Because that would seem like the most logical thing to do, to me at least.

If we sign him, presumably so that he can go through training camp, he can be sent back to the NBDL, but cannot be sent back to Europe.

Yes, we do. But, he might be better off playing in Europe, development-wise. Not sure.

Actually, the article says the exact opposite.

In the second sentence, "that" refers to the action of signing Badiane in order to bring him to training camp. So the choice the Rockets are making is wheter to sign him now and risk not having a roster spot for him, or letting him go back to Europe to get more playing time and look at signing him next year. There is nothing in that statement that implies that the Rockets are thinking about letting him go. God, I'm glad the English major was finally useful for something...
