So what do you think about the Rockets potentially moving Piatkowski for Ollie? Didn't the Astros receive Cedeno and Dotel for Hampton? What WERE they thinking? Astacio for Elarton? Release Zaun to make room for Chavez? There are examples both ways.
Surely you aren't implying that Bags and Bidge are personally against having blacks on the team also................
Be what way? We've proven that there have been just as many moves bringing in blacks/Hispanics as there have been the other way around. Y'all are just letting some idiot journalist fuel this.
Don't forget Tony Eusebio, Derrick May, Pete Incaviglia, Gonzo, Brian Hunter, DWard & Derek Bell. And Pat Listach, Andujar Cedeno, Milt Thompson, Tony Pena, Ramon Garcia, Anthony Young, Chuck Carr, Jose Cabrerra and James Mouton. And Tom Gordon, Xman Hernandez, Sid Fernandez, Jose Lima and Tank Howard. And Glen Barker, Stan Javier and Ryan Thompson. And most importantly, Dave Clark. Yep, 'Stros front office meetings are pretty much Klan rallies. Youbetcha. ****ing idiots.
What was the reason for not getting Tony Pena or Felipe Alou as our coach over Jimy Williams? I'd take either one over Jimy at this point.
pgabs, sorry. I've known one of the 'Stros player development people since I was little. Played Chapman ball with one of his kids. We've talked about this issue recently. Some of the insinuations made in this thread (not necessarily by you, and my response wasn't really directed at you in particular) are waaaay over the line, and are incredibly insulting to my friend and offensive to me. Apologies again. Go Stros.
No I don't think that they are against having blacks. I think that they openly applaud having guys on the team that they have common interests with outside of baseball. Remember how well they were saying that Kent would FIT IN because he was an outdoorsman type.
No problem. I don't really know what to think. In all honesty, I really got tired of hearing the racism accusation about the Astros all year last year. I understand that there aren't as many blacks to choose from. But when the Astros got rid of Hidalgo they made it hard for me to defend them. Being the only team in the majors with an all-white regular starting line-up, something inside of me just won't let that pass as only "how things are". I'm sorry some of you find that offensive.
I could understand this if Hidalgo wasn't making so much money or if he wasn't playing so horrible. Lane's had as many RBI in the last week as Hidalgo had in the last month. How can you argue that he shouldn't have been traded? We're just lucky that someone took him off our hands and gave us a quality arm out of the pen (two innings Saturday, no runs and no hits).
Yet, they have never said they were against having players in the clubhouse who did not share common interests. BTW, your insinuation seemed to be more than what you just clarified (i.e. the Killer Bs would prefer not to have blacks or latinos on the team). Nevermind the fact that Alou and Bags are very close friends.
Because Hidalgo has given you two really good seasons since he signed his contract, and two bad ones so it hasn't been all bad. He was your best offensive and defensive outfielder just last season. If you keep him on, his contract just goes away if you don't want to keep him after this season. I know Hidalgo was having a terrible last two months, but you didn't have to get rid of him. And lastly, if the story out of New York turns out to be true about him having an easily correctable flaw in his approach at the plate, its really going to make this organization look silly if they don't make the playoffs.
Everybody who's seen him knows he has a hole in his swing. The 'Stros tried to get him to fix it. Whether he will or not is pretty much up to Hidalgo. I hope he turns it around.
