Carl Everett, Moises Alou, Julio Lugo, Richard Hildago, Ricky Gutierrez, all moved to make room for white players.
That's a coincidence, not the reason. Not to mention that the trades have worked out for the Astros. Now I see why you don't like the Pettitte signing...he's white.
Its all coincidences. I proved my point. I didn't like the pettitte signing because he's overrated and no matter what you say, Pettitte isn't giving them anything right now so I'm currently right about that one also.
yep...and they were all moved for the color of their skin. haven't you figured it out yet?? sports owners don't want black players, pgabriel. we have secret "white fan" meetings here off the board, with a separate forum and everything. we talk about how we really put the screws to all stars like Gutierrez and Hidalgo...this week, RM95 is leading a special multi-media course on how to effectively dress like "the Man" with the assistance of The Gap...and how to root for our favorite white players in secret so we can keep our true feelings concealed.
That's questionable considering the way he bad mouthed managment before he was moved, and that's not the reason managment gave. But even if we count Wagner, that's one in about ten.
Carl Everett, Moises Alou, Julio Lugo, Richard Hildago, Ricky Gutierrez, all moved to make room for white players. Never mind that the Astros got those players in the first place... And didn't some of them replace white players? We traded a few white players (Caminiti, Finley, etc) for Derek Bell.
pgabriel -- come on....yes i've resorted to sarcasm. this is absolutely ridiculous. the assumption that drayton mclane cares about any color other than green is ridiculous. the idea that hunsicker is only out there looking for white players to join is ridiculous. every comment gets its due response...the due response for yours was ridiculous sarcasm. CREDIBILITY LOST
Perhaps there were other legit reasons to trade those players, other than their race. Like salary issues, performance issues ......etc.
Just like your examples, there are OTHER reasons that the moves were done that had nothing to do with race. Hidalgo- sucked with big contract. Lugo- sucked. Alou- huge contract, going downhill, etc. I won't completely rule out a racial motivation- maybe Drayton thinks he will get more fans to the stadium by getting white players (like Clemens or Pettite) who Houstonians can "relate" to. But I'd have to see more proof.
Never mind the fact that I said if it comes down to keeping the white or minority, the Astros almost always go with the white player. I never said they wouldn't sign any minorities.
Never mind the fact that I said if it comes down to keeping the white or minority, the Astros almost always go with the white player. I never said they wouldn't sign any minorities. Which situation in particular do you think it would have been the smart move to keep the minority over the white player?
So you had predicted that Pettite would be injured early in the season?? Other than that, he is 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA.
That's all I'm saying Mr. Clutch. I'm not saying they are racist, I think Drayton keeps players he think are more fan friendly for whatever reasons, sometimes race plays a factor I believe. On the sports station here in Houston, Lance from the morning show was talking about this subject Thursday, and he said that he heard from someone in the Rockets organization that Rudy T wasn't drafting all those white players in the late nineties strictly on ability. He was aware of keeping some white players on the team if he could. Guys who act like all these factors don't come into play, especially in towns like Houston just have their head in the sand.
