Have you checked the minor league rosters?

If they can contribute, they'll be in Houston.

You should look up the history of any spousal abuse case and you will find that many, many wives later recant their stories. It's a vicious cycle these women get themselves into.

And what does Lugo's stats have to do with his marital situation?

Bingo. If he had been a star or even an above average player OF ANY RACE he would be an Astro. He was a scrub, so he got the door.

I'm frustrated by all this because I don't understand it. I don't understand why people care what color skin the players are on their favorite team. Makes zero sense to me.

I love the Rockets...through their history I can name maybe 2 white guys who were SIGNIFICANT contributors to this team...and none of them were among my favorite players in the history of the franchise.

My favorite football player was Warren Moon. He didn't have to be white for me to relate to him...to pull for him.

I just don't understand this. I see tons of little white kids out in suburban America wearing Olajuwon jerseys...Jordan jerseys...

What is this about? Is there really a feeling that the black athlete is being discriminated against by team owners??? Do you guys honestly believe that??

We let him go because he sucked, right?

He is still only 28 and far from the end of his career. You dont give up on a young player that easily.

I agree with most of what you said........but remember how Moon was unceremoniously shown the door to make room for the Commander Cody Carlson? It was amazing how fast talk radio and print media turned on the borderline hall of famer with numerous team records. The face of the franchise for a decade. Now compare that treatment to how Bags and Biggio are treated (similar credentials to Moon). Not only were they allowed to stick around but they were given large contract extentions to do so. Why wasn't Moon shown that same loyalty? Did race play a factor because obviously Carlson was garbage?

I remember that it was about money and that Carlson was coming off a season in which he played well when coming into the game and was wanting to restructure his contract. The Oilers couldn't keep both. And I believe that Moon refused to restructure his contract so that we could keep him.

It was about money and the salary cap.

Oh, and Moon was 38 years old, Carlson was only 30.

Of course, you can say that the Oilers management had race on the brain ..........but then, you wouldn't be able to explain how they drafted a black quarter back just a few years later. :)

And to be fair, and if i remember correctly, I don't think Carlson was willing to renegotiate either.

In the end, it came down to age and money. The Oilers put their stock in a much younger QB who had shown lots of promise.

irrelevant. how was he doing at the time the astros released him? we're looking at the criteria they used to judge him at the time. possibly made a bad baseball decision (though i'd say no..it was time to get adam up)...but not a decision because of the color of his skin.

If the decision comes down between a white player and a player of color on who to keep, all things being even I would bet Drayton keeps the white player everytime.

Maybe they realized what they had after watching Carlson curled up in the fetal position on the midfield helmet for the 100th time, then having to try to sell the public on good 'ole homegrown Bucky Richardson.:)

But seriously, thanks for refreshing my memory. You are correct The Oilers gave Moon's money to Cody.

Moon hadn't had any major injuries and while not quite in his prime was still a top flight QB (did he make the Pro Bowl that year) with many good years left in him. His playoff successes were few but compared to the playoff successes of Biggio and Bags, his postseason accomplishments make him look like Joe Montana.
But the 'Stros hold onto those two guys like they're friggin Babe Ruth and Joltin Joe and consult with them before making acquisitions. For what? To see if the player fits in with the program? To make sure that the locker room remains harmonous? Maybe I'm reaching but it sounds a little fishy to me.
