I live out in Katy as well, I tried that way once...it was a disaster. I currently spend $200 a month on the Westpark Toll Road, so unless I go a different route I guess I am spending $400 a month. Dam-n!
The time I leave, it's actually not a bad option. I can make it from 610 to Hwy 6 on Richmond in 30 minutes or so if I leave at 4.
I wonder what happens if you go through a toll with absolutely positively no money on you? They can't say turn around.
All ya'll who want to live out in the boonies in your master planned communities, with your golf courses and giant #$%*ing swimming pools, shut the #$%* up and pay your #$%*ing tolls. I'll be damned if another penny of my tax dollars is spent on another massive 16 lane superhighway with a #$%*ing HOV lane just so you can get out of my town that much faster at the end of the day while taking the tax base with you. Sit in traffic or pay the toll or do both - I don't care. Me, I'll be keepin' it real here in H-Town proper. #$%* all ya'll in Katy. #$%*.
Good lord man I would move if I was paying that much money just for toll... Think about the Gas on top of that...
why are you such an angry angry person? might want to chill out a bit you like that in real life too? lol
How is that possible? Serious question, as I don't know how many tolls there are between 59 and Hwy 6. I would probably just suck it up and drive I-10 and save the money for something more important*. *beer
I'm lucky that my shift at the ofifce is 11-4. That way I can take the Katy in with no problems. I may end up taking Richmond to the Beltway then hop on the Westpark. Stupid wife moving out on me.
Westpark tollway is a joke. The only times it's not busy is after 9 and after 7. I used it a lot when I left downtown and wanted to get home early instead of waiting through lights on Westpark at 2AM each night. If you try to go on it during rush hour you will get no where. I tried it one time and never did again. Actual Westpark moves faster than the toll way. It really pisses me off to see how backwards Houston can really be. How can we continously have crappy transit ideas that just continue to fail. Westpark Tollway, Light Rail, and I -10 to name a few. Traveling for work really opened my eyes to every other major city and the fact that you can freaking get around town without worrying about a car and other things.... It's kind of making us look like a joke.
i want to see those tax dollars fix south braeswood between Stella link and the med center. My dad has lived near there for 30 years and he said it is just as bad now as it was when he moved here from India. People are complaining abotu Kirby getting fixed btu that also is about 15 years over do. Sorry to thread jack.
Most of my family lives in Katy; I'm usually there every couple of months or so, in case you're hosting anything worthwhile.
Well, my buddy's house has a pool, pool table and media room. So yeah, any night could be something worthwhile.
See, I've taken it a few times in the last couple weeks out to Katy. I've left the Galleria at 4:05 and made it to my friend's house at Grand Parkway and Highland Knolls in about 25-30 minutes. That's pretty damn good time. I made it to my poker bar (between Eldridge/Hwy 6 on Westheimer) last Thursday in 15 minutes leaving at the same time.
That's the problem, the only time you can take it is around 4pm or after 7. I dont think they think things through when they come up with great plans to help traffic.
Im sure they didn't assume hundreds of families would move to the new neighborhoods off 99. Builders will continue to build there now, but im sure the city didn't think it would be this rapid. Especially with it being as affordable as it is to live out in katy or westpark. If this increase doesn't work well (which i don't think it will work), look for the tolls to increase to $5 in about a year. This will also take effect on I-10 within a couple years as they will have a toll lane on the freeway. Theres also indication that the tolls will rise and decline based on the traffic during the day. If the traffic is heavy at a certain point on that day, they would increase toll. Once it dies, they would decrease toll. Sort of what they have in california.
