At the end of the Houston Rockets game..Yao leaves the entrance. bbjai, a Houstonian wearing a Yao #11 shirt screams loudy, "Yaoooooo!" and extends his hands. Yao, having had a bad game is in a foul mood, and looks at bbjai and says, No thanks. I don't know where that hand's been, and besides, it smells funny. bbjai is personally insulted. But the next day, he still wears his #11 Jersey proudly. Is bbjai a moron? or a faithful fan? I HOPE that everyone of us would from that moment onward, cease to be a Yao Ming fan, or at LEAST, stop wearing his Jersey.
As Yao said in the qoute below, nothing is fixed and he need time for adjustment. Yao is worried about his role?
Yes. Is your reading comprehension skills not up to snuff? clearly, Yao is worried about how Adelman has utilized him thus far. Go read the articles again, and repeat. Then maybe you'll get my point.
Yeah, my reading comprehension skills not up to snuff? Did you refer to the wrong quote? Oh, nevermind.
sounds like yao took himself out of the game mentally long before the game started. so did scola and a few others.
yao has ALWAYS been worrying. he ALWAYS wanted to get better. last year with tracy and yao, we didn't get past the 1st round. do you want yao's legacy to be tracy? a great player but a loser? adelmen will take us to the next step, and ADD to yao's skill even more. Jvg did a great job, making him a great post player. jvg made yao to ignore all the fouls he got, and to finish strong. i congrats jvg for doing that. but there were downside as well. remember warriors? no matter how hard yao tried, he could not get open. players (rafer inclued) tried to force a pass to him, but did not suceed. why not open up the paint to have cutting playerrs avaibable?
Totally agree with you. Yao's a real center and he probably shoudl live in the paint but as you gave an example of Warriors game it may not work. I remember that game. Yo couldn't even catch the ball. The reception to stop Yao is easy - jut fron tim and he's done. If you're behind him and you leave him play 1on1 you've got no chances to stop Yao. So it's good. Yao's already a great post player but Adelman wants to add new pieces to his game. That's good but thet doesn't mean he has to stay on the high post 80& of his playin' time. It will depend on opponents' defense
i saw this article in the paper today. i thought it was funny how they added a picture of yao getting blocked by matt bonner
I wish u were not trying to be funny. Players get dunked on, get blocked --- part of their job. so leave Yao alone.
its not the fact yao got blocked. its about his hometeam's newspaper (houston chronicle) actualy print that picture. don't you think the HOUSTON chronicle should be supporting the HOUSTON rockets?
Acutally I was thinking more along the lines of this: yao_fan_2007 rushed home to surf on his computer. He logs onto clutch fans to see the first thread with 5 stars : Chron: Yao calls out fans to stop bringing him into disrepute. He quickly opens this up puzzled that the great Yao Ming would do such drastic action. He opens it up and reads: Yao Ming has today cried out to fans who have insisted that he maintain his scoring average at the expense of the Houston Rockets. Yao has said over and over again he is a team player and puts winning about everything, even at his own expense. Specifically Yao states, " I've been hearing some stories from all over the internet, particularly from one board which has a devout fan of mine continuously maintaining that I should stay a 25 ppg scorer and that I should always get my shots, I would like to categorically state that if I give up my shots and only score 15 ppg and the Rockets still win, I will be more then happy to do so! please don't bring the game of basketball into disrepute and support the Houston Rockets as a team. It takes 5 after all.
This is what I was worried about. I want Yao in the low post at the least, 80-90% of the game. RA's past big men like Divac and Webber were more effective in the high post than the low. Yao is the opposite. His bread and butter for his career has been in the low post. He didn't become the dominant center that he is by shooting jumpers or setting picks. So far, I think Yao's been in the high post more than the low block and that could be a problem.
Let's not forget that Yao can be a turnover machine if he is in the post too much. I think Adelman is trying to keep him fresh and eliminate those turnovers. I think 65-75% in the post is about right.
I feel Yao should turn to face the rim after he got the ball at elbow so he can easyly to decide shot or pass. I belive Adlman will tell yao what should to do is best. He is a great coach.
we all know what he can do in the low post. why let him keeping practicing it in preseason and increase injures? why not add to his skills, during meaningless games?
In retrospect, Yao had a very hard time last season getting position at the low post vs the Warriors and ESPECIALLY vs the Suns. Perhaps he will have to be in the high post more if they front him next time.
he has to be in the high post more v. 2-3 teams in this league (warriors/suns) so 30-40% high post v. these teams are good so yao can get the ball. v. others, 85-90% is better. only go high post when we run things for tracy and gives him space.
The high post makes it that much easier on the defender to guard Yao. All Yao can do from that position is pass, set a screen or shoot a jumper. He puts it on the floor and its a turnover. The defender does not have to worry about Yao banging into him down low and wearing him out. Not to mention that you can still front and double him in the high post to deny him the ball. It's actually easier now. You don't have to go all the way down the paint to front/double him leaving guys open on the perimeter. Now they can do that, and still be able to get back to their man. The high post is a great offensive set but it won't solve all of Yao's problems. Yes I know it was only preseason but RA said in the article that 15 high post touches out of 25 is not enough. That right there scares me because It seemed like more than enough high post touches.
